I only got to meet Joe once in NZ when he came down for the Antartic Programme, but he straight struck me as a fun loving guy. He was extremely loyal and loved to have a good time out with his mates. Its just such a shame that he's going to miss out on being a father. My prayers go out to his wife and young child. Will Miss you Joe!

Trooper Longobardo--

Although I never got a chance to know you I have heard many stories about you and I can see how many people you have touched. I just wanted to let you and your family know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers forever and you have given me the motivation to strive even harder to become a Trooper-- I hope that one day I can serve the New York State Police half as well as you. Rest in peace and I know you will be looking down on all of us.

I just wanted to say that I didn't know Joe all that well but what I did know of him was that he was a nice, fun person. At the base he was the one who set the example and demanded respect without saying a word. When quad riding he was the one who would say "yeah you can get thru there" and then laugh at you when your stuck up to your hips in mud. :P
I am glad to have gotten to know him if even for a short time.
My heart and prayers go out to Teri & Louis. And remember: "There is no death, only a change in worlds."

Trooper, I sincerely hope that your family knows the depth of our gratitude for your sacrifice. I have never served with you but that is irrelevant. We are brothers in a noble profession. You are a credit to all that is good and right with the world. I think of my family and worry what would become of them if I were to befall the same fate. I want your wife to know that there is a reason for all that happens in this world. I want her to feel the love and our profound sense of loss at this time. I hope our prayers ease her grief, and bring her solace. She is NOT alone in this painful time. We are not there to physically embrace her, but our spirit of caring for our law enforcement family is constant and unending. I am thankful that a man of your nature was allowed to occupy time with us if only for a brief period. Peace be with you brother.

I was baffled to see Joe's picture on the news. I remember serving with Joe in Turkey as we were both fulfilling our military duties. He served his community as a police officer and his country as a military member! You could ask for nothing less than that of a true American. Joe, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Rest easy, your fight is over... God speed

It matters not where or when a fellow officer is taken. As a cop on the other side of the world, with a wife and child, it hurts the heart and angers the soul. God Bless ALL COPS...and their families. My sincere condolences to a fellow officer and his family.
Kindest Regards,
Steve.

A Part of America Died Today

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
A Part of America Died Today.

Rest In Peace, Brother…

Joseph you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Rest easy my brother. I heard of your story and it reminded me of our tragic events here on May 8th of this year. You will never be forgotten and my heart grieves for your family. As Colonel Dave Grossman in his book ON Killing has said it takes men like us to be sheepdogs who protect the flock of sheep from the evil wolves that want to do them harm. You my brother are a Sheepdog. I will see you on the other side my brother.

To a true hero we are all proud of you.

It was a beautiful day
A New York State Trooper in his prime
A member of the elite Mobile Response Team
The church filled to capcaity along with the grounds outside
A somber mood filled the air
A sense of sadness among us all
For today we buried a hero
Who chose to answer the call
They came from far and wide
To show their respect
As we honor NYSP shield 4566

God Bless Joe
You'll be missed

To the son of Trooper Joseph A. Longobardo-

Child, my prayers are for you tonight. Strive to be a selfless man of sacrifice and strength, like your father, and know that his death was not and is not in vain. His story is fuel inside the blood of every other Officer in this country, telling us to continue, and giving us a true and clean example as we do. May God bless and keep you and your mother; love her well as you grow up, for she will need you.

I had the pleasure to serve with Joe in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1992 - 1996. He was one of the finest Marines that I've ever met. I've reflected our many great times in Okinawa and I'm so thankful that God let our paths cross. I will miss you brother.

I mad this 1 just for you.<3

He hurt us, yes, I will admit to that,
we did not see it coming, we did not know where you were at.
He hurt our spirits, the act made the news,
he caused death, destrution,
your tragic news made people sing the blues.
He made the wound, you left the love,
but wounds will heal, and the pain will halt.
we wave the flag, the people stand brave,
everyone knowing, His mistake will pay.
we can forgive, but we cannot forget,
the terror and pain that he set.
with our heads held high, and our spirits too,
we have pride with the red, white, and blue.
and now, as time goes by,
we still see the flag, waving in the sky.
and now we know we will move on.
and all that is done will be that way.
you will watch your brothers behind the badge.
and the man who did this will pay his price.
and now that you are gone your sole will go on.
Now the man behind this is Raplh Bucky Phillips,
the man is now behind bars because of your bravery,
and my prayers move on to your family,
and also to trooper Donald Baker.

4566 i will never forget you
