Reflections for Trooper Joseph Anthony Longobardo

"A Police Officers Prayer"

"Lord I ask For Courage
Courage to face and conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me where others will not go...
I ask for strength
Strength of body to protect others...
And strength of spirit to lead others...
I ask for dedication
Dedication to do my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...
Give me lord, concern for others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...
And plaese Lord
Through it all, be at my side."

Trooper Longobardo- although I never had the opportunity to meet you, you shared the same job as my husband. We had a fundraiser last night to raise money for the Baker family and also for Teri and Louis. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and all of your family members. Thank you for your years of service with the NYSP. We will never forget your sacrifice. Rest in Peace.

Joe was one of the best guys I have ever known. I will never forget the deployments we went on together, and how he had to calm me down when I was Sgt. F.O.D. in the UAE. Joe was always looked up to by all the troops in the 109th SFS. He set an example for everyone to strive for. The ATV rides we all went on were a blast. I will miss going riding with him and getting his quad out of the mud. I will miss him very much. I am PROUD to say he was my friend.

Dear Longobardo Family,

My deepest sympathy goes out to you all. We unfortunately know the sorrow of losing one of our own. Cpl. Joseph R. Pokorny, E.O.W. 12-12-05, was gunned down by an actor that apparently had no conscience. The pain and sorry are still being felt to this day to lose a wonderful co-worker and dear friend. I am sure that Tpr. Longobardos' fellow officers are there for you in your time of sorrow and they will be there for you to lean on. I wish I could take the pain that is present now away, but just know that he will always be there in your hearts as Cpl. Pokorny remains in ours here in Pennsylvania.
I have never met Trooper Longobardo, but I am sure that he was one of your finest as our Cpl. Pokorny was to us! Our states were extremely lucky to have such fine men to serve and represent our Departments and now watching over all of us!
God Bless your family and Tpr. Longobardo will be in my prayers as your family will be also!

To Teri and Louis,

As a former member of the NYSP for 30 years, I have seen too often, the life of a fellow officer ended way too early. Know that if you need help with anything, your extended family, the New York State Police, will always be there to help you, we do not forget our brothers. May Joe rest in peace with his brother officers who have gone before him.

Joe,
Words typed here can not reflect how much you were admired by your fellow officers and the civilians you were sworn to protect, on the job for the State Police and as a member of the military. Your dedication and service will never be forgotten. Rest easy brother, we will take it from here!
The Thin Blue Line can never be broken.

We knew that you were special, we knew it all along.
And when He took you from us, it made for a sad, sad song.
But know this Joe, that everyday, you'll be in our prayers.
And one day we will meet again, at the top of those beautiful stairs.

See you then Joe.

To the Family of Joseph Longobardo:

I grieve for you and your loss of your loved one.

I know the pain you feel, we lost our Hero 3 years ago to a gun shot to the chest. He was 23 years old and Officer in Chesterfield ,VA police Department, and it still feels like yesterday. Ryan Cappelletty EOW: 5-28-03

Every time our family sees things like this it is so hard because all of our memories and feelings coming rushing back in to relive it again.

I can't tell you it will get better. You will miss him forever. Draw on the strenght of your family ,friends and love ones to get you through the crisis and remember that,

God gives us our loved ones for a certain period of time to enjoy ,love, and make wonderful memories with. These are what will help you survive and stuggle through those hard times and grief. The awesome memories that only you have had together!

We live very close to the area that this tragedy happened and to us he is a "brave hero". We have been in fear of this fugitive and Joesph answered the call to protect and serve. He did his job well and we will always remember his sacrifice to keep us safe. He will not be forgotten.

Don't worry, Our Fallen Hero, Ryan, will be there to met him and show him the golden streets of heaven.

Rest easy Joseph, your fellow officers are on duty now.

Watch over them.
