Reflections for Corporal Robert Thomas Krauss
Bob,
I can't believe you're gone. It's like its a dream and I keep hoping I wake up. You told me one time long ago I'm tough and I always bounce back. After the accident I thought the worst was over, you made it though that. When Lou called me and told me the surgery didn't go well and you took a turn for the worst and passed at 11:00 p.m. I went into a state of shock thinking what you told me. I'll always remember the good times we had at work with the old gang(Glen, Duke, Gerald, Lou, and Mike). I'll must the fun times and cherish the memories forever. I'll think of you often. Rest in peace and watch over your Mom.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Corporal Krauss, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.
Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

Bob, I remember that terrible day last December like it was yesterday! Hearing on my radio that a Motor Officer was down chilled me to the bone. While racing back to your location I kept praying that you were OK. You & your fellow Motor Officers at MdTAP are always so willing to help my unit when we need it. As always, thank you for your help! You will be missed my Brother, may you rest in peace.
You will not be forgotten!

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

To the family of Corporal Krauss: Upon the death Ofc Tara Drummond, EOW 9/13/05, her sister Brittney wrote the following simple, yet powerful words:
"Love never ends...it just changes shape."
These words have brought the family much comfort over the past year. In time, may they bring you comfort also knowing that Robert is still near, still with you, still loving you as much as you love him.

FINAL INSPECTION
The Motor Officer stood and faced GOD,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his motor boots were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you Motor Officer,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The Motor Officer squared his shoulders and said,
"NO, LORD, I Guess I ain't"
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my walk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne,
Where the saints has often trod.
As the Motor Officer waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"STEP FORWARD MOW, you Motor Officer,
You've born your burdens well.
Ride peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Bob,
I got a the call late Friday afternoon that your condition had taken a turn for the worse. I just kept thinking positive. You were such a strong person with everything you had been through previously and I just kept saying to myself that you would make it through this situation. Shortly before 530a yesterday morning my phone rang. Seeing that is was one of your co-workers calling so early, I had a terrible feeling it wasn't good news. I picked it up and said "he's gone isn't he?" It still does not seem real. You were truly a great guy. I will hold the funny memories I personally have of you and the crazy stories that were shared with me by my dad and Duke of you close to my heart. And although I have told you this before, I want to thank you again for being there for Duke and I.
Continue to keep watch over your family, friends and co-workers from above during this difficult time Krauss...and always.
