Reflections for Police Officer Jonathan James "AJ" Schroeder

Jon: God bless you and your family. I know you only as a good guy. I knew you as a younger one...played little leauge with you a few times on your team...and then Penn Hills '87 high school days. You were one of a kind. Some gave all, All gave some. Thank you for your service. You gave All...I thank you for that. I wish I could have known you after Penn Hills days. You are still in my memory either way.-- An old friend, Carey Haddick.

hey aj. its been two years now. i just thinking back on how i got a phone call from my uncle asking if i knew who the officer was. of course i called don, dan, bob, everybody. their phones were all busy. it was the absolute worst feeling to have. you were the last person that i thought this would have happened to. we still talk about you when we get together. you, amy, and eric are never far from our thoughts. we still have good laughs thinking some of the goofy stories.just wanted to let you know we have not forgotten you. by the way i am still rooting against the steelers on september 14!!!

As I read all the report of Officer Owens death and as I pray that his family finds the strength they need to get through this difficult time, I can't stop the sadness I feel about your senseless death. We all miss you so much. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you.

Jon its hard to believe its been 1 1/2 years now. As I look back on us growing up together I realise how much both your family and the entire law enforcement community lost.
God bless you for your service.
I only hope I helped make you and your family proud.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AJ !!!!!!!!!!!!! S.A.D.

December 30, 2007

It has already been 1 yr since you died. I never met you, but judging by all the posts on here from family, friends and CPD officers, it is obvious that you were a great Dad, husband, friend and police officer.
I am sorry that your life was taken so suddenly and tragically.
Know that your family will always be taken care of by your family in blue.
God Bless.
