I met you when I was a kid working in the bars. You told me you can do better. So I did. Always had a big heart and I will truly miss you.

AJ, I met you down at the Indians. Your smile was one I could never forget. I was younger when I met you. You knew my dad who was a supervisor at Gate D. You turned to me and said you have a really great dad here. You were also telling me how proud you were to become a new father. I will never forget you as I work towards becoming involved in law enforcement..

Hey AJ, it's been 7 long years. You may be gone, but you are not forgotten. Everytime we drive by the memorial both of the boys say hi to you, which is quite amazing because Ryan was only a year old and Tyler was born 2 years after you were killed. Both boys ask questions and we tell them exactly what happened. RIP my friend....

Thinking of you and your family today Jon. Ironically, Eric's first day of kindergarten is today, he is so excited and ready for school. I am saddened that you are not here but know that Amy has done an amazing job raising Eric. You would be so proud.

Officer Schroeder, I remember you for the countless times we crossed paths in Playhouse Square, and your unfailing smile and first words- a police officer who gave all a benefit of the doubt, and an open hand.. When I heard of your EOW, I "..just happened to put [my] hand to my face, to find it damp, and [I] wondered what the hell Christ bothered to die for, if He ever died at all."

You are gone but not gone, and never forgotten by those so many whose lives you touched..

I thought about you a lot today as I attended the funeral of PSO Eric Zapata who was killed in the line of duty here in Kalamazoo. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
