Reflections for Police Officer Jonathan James "AJ" Schroeder
My deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of this officer. I attended the funeral and it was very heart warming to see the support from all of the other agencies from all over Ohio that attended. Rest in peace brother. You will not be forgotten.

When Jenn was in the Cleveland Clinic a couple of years ago, you met with us and her family. I enjoyed hearing your "police stories", as much as you enjoyed telling them. I could tell that you loved your career. There aren't too many people out there that can say the same. You are and will always be an inspiritation.
My deepest sympathy goes out to your family. Your son will be very proud of you. You are a hero.

Please accept our condolences and prayers.
It was earlier today that my wife, Susan, and I learned of Officer Schroeder's passing. Susan is from Cleveland and we still have family living in the area. Thank you for all you did to make the City a better place. Your watch is over.... we'll take over from here.
Though your son will never have the chance to know you, he will be forever comforted by the fact that you had the courage to go where few men dare. He will be proud of you. You were truly a hero. It takes a special person to willingly put everything on the line for those around him. You looked death in the eye and still willing did what needed to be done.
Rest in Peace. You're in our prayers and thoughts.

Dear Schroeder Family, I am the granddaughter of a police officer from California who also gave his life in the line of duty. His story is similar to yours. LT.William James Davis was shot to death while attempting to assist in the arrest of a criminal at a home in San Francisco, on January 4, 1928. My mother, Angela Davis, age 14, was so traumatized by her adored father's death that she seldom spoke of his passing with us. After her death in 2002, I found a newspaper article in her hope chest, telling the whole story. My grandpa was given a hero's funeral, too. As I watched the funeral procession for Officer Schroeder today, I thought of you and of my mom again. I am so sorry for your loss, and I thank you for the gift of his life to us all. May God bless him, may His light shine upon him, and may He fill your hearts with peace in the days ahead. Sincerely, your sister in Christ, Barbara Hathaway

Many times we see how heros like you fall because of a tragic situation, but we are left with the comfort that God has taken you into his own. We also know that our lives our hearts and our community will never be the same without you. Thank you for your service and dedication to duty. May God bless your family and your fellow brothers in blue all over our great nation. You make us so very proud to know we were under your gentle yet firm hand of service. God Bless you.

He was a great man and a hero. God Bless Him & His Family.
"His Smile"
by Judy Hartman
Some called him "little Larry",
some called him "squint"
His smile was his trademark,
wherever he went.
A room would brighten
when Larry came in
'cause the first thing you saw,
would be his grin!
A son and brother so precious;
a friend so true!
Whatever he had,
he'd share it with you!
A thought, a deed, a kind
word for a while
But always, oh always,
He'd share 'His Smile'.
Our hearts are breaking,
our thoughts are going wild!
We've lost our friend:
We've lost our child!
"But only for a while,"
I heard Jesus say
"He's been chosen for the
Master's Bouquet!"
Hand selected by Jesus from
this 'garden of life'
Gone to Heaven!-He's
through with this strife!
Why is he gone?
God only knows.
But Oh what a treasure,
A "smiling rose!"

AJ I met you while you were having lunch at a restaurant about a year ago and I haven't forgotten about you. When I found out that you were the fallen officer I was saddened. We had a great time that day. You will always be remembered. Justice will be served to the offender. You will be missed by everyone you protected. You are a great man who has gone home. You are in a better place now.

People come into our lives for a reason, a season, a lifetime. When someone is in our life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need we have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist us through a difficulty, to provide us with guidance and support, to aid us phycially, emotionally, or spiritually. THEY MAY SEEM LIKE A GODSEND, AND THEY ARE.
When someone is in our life for a SEASON, it is because our turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring us an experience of peace or make us laugh. They may teach us something we have never done. They usually give us an UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT OF JOY.
LIFETIME relationships are a bit more difficult to let go of. The pain seems to grow, and we feel like a part of our life is dying. We relive every painful moment in an attempt to understand.
Our job is not to understand.
Our reasons, seasons, and lifetimes of moments we shared with PO AJ SHROEDER have taught us lifetime lessons. We must all find memories of AJ SHROEDER that bring us JOY, make us SMILE or LAUGH, make us PROUD to have known someone who did not hesitate to lay down his life so we could be safe. I KNOW I HAVE....
GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR NEXT ASSIGNMENT OFFICER SHROEDER
