Recalling the community held a public memorial service for Officer Schroeder at the church at West 95th and Madison. Pastors from many nearby churches conducted the service. I had the privilege of designing and producing the memorial booklet given to attendees along with a red rose donated by Green Thumb Floral Shop. Engine Company 23 led a procession around neighboring streets. We took up a collection for the family. This young officer died to protect our community. God bless him.

AJ, I met you down at the ballpark (Jacobs Field) as a kid a few weeks before you served the warrant. You knew my dad who worked there and you told me that I had an awesome dad and you were a new father yourself. You were so excited and filled with joy about the birth of your son. I will never forget you because I saw in that moment how amazing of a person you are. I miss you and wish I had the chance to spend more seasons with you down at the ballpark
