Reflections for Detective Corporal Charles Eugene Smith, II

I will always remember Chuck as not only an outstanding police officer but a great person who made the world a better place to live and was taken from us much too soon. I was proud to consider him a friend and I will miss him forever.

Chuckie,

It is difficult to express the sorrow that I feel.

I will always remember that smile that you carried with you everyday, and I will never forget the ultimate sacrifice that you made while bravely confronting the evil in our community.

May God bless you and give peace to your family during this difficult time.

May God bless and protect the "Thin Blue Line"

Chuck-

You've always been more than a cousin and more than a friend. We've grown up together, and we've been through it all.
You enriched my childhood. You enriched our community. And now you enrich heaven and make it even sweeter for us all.

"Greater love hath no man that this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13

Thank you Chuck. I will love you as a brother always.

I first met Chuck while conducting his background investigation for employement with the BPD. I learned he would make an excellant officer and recomended him for employement. He was always focused on doing the best job he could in all areas of assignment. He was an excellant officer and a better man. He held so much promise for giving to the community in areas other than law enforcement. He loved to work with youth in the area of sports. He had the ability to turn off police work and enjoy life in his community. He will be missed by many.

Hey Chuck
I am sitting here this morning, the tears are pouring down my face, I can only imagine the wonderful place you are at now. As much as I would of loved to have seen you this morning at the #1 tee box at Stonehaven, I know you are playing golf in a much better place, a place where the fairways are wide and the greens roll so true.

I am so sorry you never got to play Stonehaven. We had put it off so many times and said we would do it next week. Well today was the day we were going to finally play Stonehaven, I hope you don't mind, but I am not going to be able to make it, my heart is broken and I wouldn't be much of a playing partner today, besides, it looks like rain, I am glad to see the water falling from the sky, it will make it easier to hide my tears. It has been so hard here the last couple of days, everytime I see my little girl I just start to cry uncontrollably. She looks at me with those big blue eyes and so innocently asks, "What's wrong daddy?" I can only think of your little angel, Taylor and how she will have to wait so long until she gets to see you again, I know you will be looking down on her and taking care of her as you always did, but if you ever need me to do anything for her, just call on me, I will be there in minutes notice.

I have to go now, but I want to say I am sorry for all the little missed opportunities and I will make it up to you one day soon. I know I will see you again in that big fairway in the sky. I love you man and can't wait to see you again.

To the family of Chucky. He helped us with the Golf tournment that we held each year in memorial of Billie Giacmoco who was killed in the line of duty in Nicholas County. Now we will miss Chucky's smile and helpful that he gave us. I send my sympathy to his family and co workers as I have a son who is a State Trooper, who was a close friend of Chucky

Chuck, it was only the other day that we sat at PD and talked at length. We talked about similar problems we both had. We talked about golf. I will always regret that we never got to play a round together. I know you could have taught me a lot. You excelled at everything you did. I never met a more dedicated officer than you. Although we miss you deeply, we will continue your work. We will take care of your family. We'll all sit and remember the good times we all had. I've already caught myself telling your stories to my trainee. Chuck, I'll never forget you. Rest in Peace.
