To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 131rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I also thank you for your service to your homeland during the Civil War as I am also a North Carolina native and my ancestors fought along side you in that terrible war that divided our country.

Rest In Peace.

I just wanted to let your family and friends know that there are many out there who know the pain that you feel today. My brother Roger was killed 4 years ago today. You are in the thoughts and prayers of many folks who care. I pray that God will bless you with many precious happy memories to help fill your heart "especially today".

I am amazed to see that like so many officers of this day and time, Deputy Baker was not only an Officer of the law, but also a veteran of the US Military. It amazed me that this man served in one of the most brutal wars in history, served in probably one of the most dangerous times for police, and still found time to marry and raise eight children in a loving family. As always, it is ashamed to know that a man of honor, a true hero, was gunned down by a coward who hid under his mommies coat tail fleeing from the reality of his sorry life. The good thing is that while the criminal died a coward in a brothel in Winston-Salem, the Deputy ended his watch as a hero, a protector of all that is good and right in this world. These are the kind of lessons we need to be teaching our new officers in recruit training.
