Reflections for Lieutenant Gary Edward Dudley

Hey Gary,
So many of us are beginning our journeys to D.C this weekend, to see your name. For many of us, you helped pushed us there and introduced us to the world of the "Survivors". I will always remember you bringing us together and reminding us about why we rode...we will stand before those walls again, and listen for your voice. We love you,

Gary,

That horrible day of Aug 22 is approaching. I miss bunches buddy. You were a great friend and mentor. You never gave up on me. I was able to peddle to DC with your encouragement. Although I was not a troop, you made me a better Police Officer. We all miss you dearly. Hope that that you and Gary Martin, and Rex Rakow, are guarding the steps of heaven. Show compassion as we'll see you again. God Speed my friend. I will never forget you.

I am stocking up on the band-aids for this years ride, I can still see that goofy smile of yours when you should me the band-aids as I struggled up that long hill on our way to DC. I hope to feel you hand on my back again this year as you push me up those hills! We all miss you so much!

As the weather begins to warm, all of the riders, in Indiana and Illinois, think of you and Gary Martin when we clean off the bikes and think about riding again. You are with us always, and I absolutely believe that you and Gary are looking out for us. We miss you terribly, and while we have been knocked down with your passing, we get back up, look around and we start to pedal...one push at a time. You are our inspiration...

i rode with gary in the 2006 illinois cops bike ride. he helped me the first day and him along with the other riders inspired me to get a better bike and continue the ride with them...because i thought if they were willing to sacrifice their time with their families and jobs to raise money and awerness for my family and other survivors i should be along with them showing how much their dedication ment to us. what gary did was a great thing and im glad so many people remeber this great man
i would like to thank gary and his family for the sacrifices in remebrence of fallen officers...and it is unfortunate that you had to join the orginazation that gary supported so much...and an organixation that loved gary for everything he did

--"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." -- Maya Angelou

Aloha Lieutenant Gary Edward Dudley,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.

As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.

Lieutenant Gary Edward Dudley, I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.

--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,

I am shocked and so sorry to read this horrible news. Gary along w/ Dave Burstein instructed me in a pilot DRE program in NJ. I gave them the tour of NY and we stayed in touch for several years. He was kind and quiet and and along w/ his partner played the straight guy in are comedic quest to laugh. I again am so sorry for this loss. Gods speeed

To the family of Lieutenant Dudley, I unerstand the horrific ordeal of loosing a loved one I as a child had the same experience. Please know in your hearts that our HERO's were always thinking of others before themselves. They truely gave 100% to their family and the citizens in their state. I thank God everyday that Hero's exist as our nation would not be the same without them. May you have comfort in knowing that the rewards for their sacrifice are now being bestowed on him may he rest in peace, and may peace be with your family knowing your garding angel will still be watching over you. When you get this feeling you are or are not suppost to do something remember that your angel is still watching over you from above. I truely believe there watch never ends as I have had many times where I know my angel was still watching over me during my lifetime. Cheryl

I had the opportunity to work with Lt. Dudley through my job. He was a wonderful person. I know several of the men he rode with and admire his conviction to raise money for others. He will be deeply missed.

The academy (ILEA) will not be the same without Gary's presence. As I begin instructing a new recruit class next week I will have, as I do now thoughts of Gary walking in the rear of the room observing unobtrusively with such a genuine careing manner, that the students would immediately straighten and pay more attention to the lecture than they had been. Not out of fear but from wanting to do their best around him. This is but a small example of the respect that Gary engendered among all of us. We miss you more than words can express.

I was a member of the first class Gary taught at the academy. Even with the discipline it was evident that Gary was most interested in our success. I remember working I465/Indianapolis one evening when a speeding car passed me.The vehicle pulled off at an exit ramp. In the vehicle I found Gary and Trooper Kenny Davis giggling like school girls. They informed me that they were making fun of me on the low band radio while I was stopping them. They were very disapointed I didn't hear them. Both of these officers have also told me several times during my career that I had done something right. Each of us are able to succeed and have great accomplishments because of people like Gary and Kenny. Thank you both for your support and guidance.
