Reflections for Lieutenant Gary Edward Dudley
I first met Lt. Dudley when I attended ILEA in 2006. Since we were the same age, we spent hours remembering our law enforcement careers and also discussing the future. Lt. Dudley might have come across a bit gruff to his cadets, but behind that exterior was a man who deeply cared for those in his charge. The world is truly poorer having lost Lt. Dudley and Chief Martin.

Lt,
I make it a point to stop at your grave each time I come to Indy for an overnight. This month I have had the opportunity to stop more than normal. Seeing your grave immediately brings me back to Recruit School! I remember thinking that if I could just be like you during my career I would be satisfied. Well, I am now sure that I will never be able to measure up to the differences you have made on so many people, but I have obtained your rank of FSgt. It was at your grave that I made the decision to pursue this new position. I will never forget you; you made such a huge impact on my career in the short time that I was fortunate to know you. Please continue to watch over us and I give you my word I will continue to do everything I can to ensure you, all of our fallen brothers and the survivors are NEVER FORGOTTEN! “Stay alert/Stay alive!”

Time passes so quickly-so hard to believe yesterday marked 7 years since you died. As I read the many thoughts shared by those that knew & loved you, those who's career you impacted, and those Officers that only know you through other's memories; I am always amazed at how many lives you touched. You are missed by so many. I love you & miss you now as that day 7 yrs ago. Always in my heart-together forever

It has been 7 years from the darkest moments of our lives. The void and pain seemed so vast, and yet over time we have remembered, memorialized and continued your legacy of helping others. You showed us to do things that mattered to people and mattered to ourselves-and in turn, it has made some of us question whether we really matter. You have always been a compass to me and others, we see your face, hear your voice and feel your spirit. You will always be remembered in our minds and hearts. We miss you and treasure what you shared-the gift of yourself. We love you and mean it!!

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 7th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

On the day before "Early Arrival" for National Police Week, many of us witnessed hundreds of riders who rode to the Pentagon to support C.O.P.S. and the ODMP. It was an inspiring site: hundreds of riders, their families, support drivers who came out in solidarity for these two great organizations who do so much for survivors. It was deja vu for some of us...and to just look around and see what has happened was surreal. We miss you.

It has been a long time since I wrote, but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you. The ride in Illinois this year was brought to an even higher level, with new survivors joining and inspiring us. You have touched so many lives through the rides in Indiana and Illinois...we miss you and keep an eye on us!!

Lt. Dudley I think of you often. You were a tremendous role model for my while I was a Basic Course Student in 1999. Later, you would truely epotimize what the Indiana State Police was all about when I became a cadet under your training and guidance. I will never forget you or what you instilled in me.
