To the family and friends of State Trooper Gary Dudley, I wish to convey my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. I know what a driven passion he had for his profession, for my son was one in the same. My son was killed on April 20th, 2005 in an auto accident on his way to a manhunt. I will never forget that horrible day and I pray that you will somehow find the strength to go on. The Trooper Family is a tight knit group and I`m sure they will be there for your family. They are also grieving, for they lost a brother. My heart aches for your family. The days ahead will be rough, Please know that our family will keep You all in our Hearts and our prayers. Sincerely, Mary Ann Tatoian, Mother of Missouri State Trooper, Ralph C. Tatoian, 10-42, 4-20-05.

The loss of Lieutenant Dudley is one that can't be put into words. As I try to think of a fitting reflection I am reminded of how many hearts he has touched along the way, mine being one of them.
I remember Lieutenant Dudley standing over me during one of the first few weeks of recruit school as I tried to force myself into doing those infamous push-ups. He got down in my face and said "don't you quit on me", and that I will never do. He taught me any many other new troopers what the life of a law enforcement officer is really about.
It saddens me to know that I was in the last recruit class to be honored with Lieutenant Dudley's presence. The Indiana State Police along with the rest of the Country have suffered a tremendous loss.
My heart goes out to all those who have lost a loved one, especially those left behind by Lieutenant Dudley.
God Speed Brother...

Lt. Gary Dudley was the type of officer all of us in law enforcement should strive to be. The words compassion, dedication, honor, and integrity are mere glimpses into the character of this outstanding man. He was a humanitarian of the highest degree. The worthy cause of Concerns of Police Survivors, that he so passionately dedicated himself to, will no doubt honor him as one of their greatest champions. With his death there will be those other dedicated individuals who will take up flag of the cause and carry it on in his honor. However, Gary Dudley can only be succeeded, never replaced. Godspeed, Gary, you will be missed more than your humble soul will ever know.

I wish to express my deepest sympathies to Mrs. Dudley and Lt. Dudley's family. I was forunate to have trained unser Lt. Dudley as a member of the 60th Recruit Class. I have many fond and not so fond memories of being awoke at 2 Am for PT. Lt. Dudley was always there running along side us, leading us in push ups and sit ups, and yelling (aka encouraging us) at us. He was a true inspiration and role model for every young Trooper. He embodied for me what it meant to be an Indiana State Trooper, tough but fair. My fondest memory of graduation day at the State House is when Lt. Dudley introduced me to the crowd as Trooper Harlan Williams when I prepared to give the graduation speech on behalf of my recruit, I will always remeber that moment and the feeling it gave me, it was an honor to be called Trooper by him. I will remeber a great leader, police officer and human being. May your rest be long and peaceful.

In the Spring of 2003,I had the pleasure to bicycle(Police Unity Tour-Chapter 5) with Lt.Gary Dudley and Chief Gary Martin and 23 other officers from the Police Memorial in Indianapolis to the Police Memorial in Washington,DC.at Judiciary Square...to raise funds for the N.L.E.O.M and C.O.P.S. Lt. Dudley set the tone for the ride..."It's a unity tour...We ride together" He instilled a strong sense of team work and personal sacrifice for each other and to honor and remember the Fallen Officers and their families. Gary Dudley and Gary Martin cared so much for the families of the Fallen Officers.
My brief two weeks with these men and the other participants has never been forgotten...Lt.Gary Dudley and Chief Gary Martin shall never be forgotten by any of us...they shall live on forever in our hearts. My deepest condolences to Gary Dudley's wife and his family and to the family of Chief Gary Martin...and to those injured...may you all have a speedy recovery.

As a survivor of a fallen officer, it was so hard to hear of another loss.
The news of hearing about Officer Dudley and Martin was devastating. Though I didn't know either officer personally, there was a very special place in my heart for both of them. Not only the dedication to their departments and communities should be recognized, but also the kindness in their hearts to do something so special to raise money for families of fallen officers.
To the families of these two Hero's I want you to know how greatful I am and also let you know that you have a Law Enforcement family that will aways be there to support you and love you.
May God wrap his loving arms around you and carry you through this most difficult time .

Gary,
You were an inspiration for all officers. You were dedicated to a great cause (Indiana C.O.P.S. - Concerns of Police Survivors) and came to rest in what you love doing. It was a pleasure riding along side you 400 miles in the Illinois C.O.P.S ride. We will continue to ride even harder, and now honor you. It was a pleasure to have known you. You will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace.
