Rest in peace Gary. Trust that we will teach our new recruits like you would have wanted. I learned alot from you the past three years and hope one day that I could be half the instructor you were. As I sit here at ILEA I can hear you yelling "don't quit on me"! Gary, you know we won't! Watch over us and guide us my brother.

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Lieutenant Dudley, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Gary, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Gary's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Gary's life was about so much more than the way he died. Gary will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Lieutenant Dudley, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Lt. Gary Dudley was an unbelievable human being. I will strive to be more like him in the future. The word "selfish" was not in the Lt.'s vocabulary. He was a fantastic teacher and mentor who thought about "you" before himself. I will miss seeing him each time I go to the academy to instruct the new Troopers. Lt. Dudley was riding to raise money for the families of fallen officers, need I say more? Rest In Peace, Sir.

Hi, I am very sorry about your loss even though I have never known Trooper Dudley. I know how you must feel because I have lost a loved one about 1 1/2 years ago. After reading the condolences,he must have been a good man. I recently got the special memorial plate and I support The Indiana State Police all the way! Godspeed sir!

To the family of Lt Dudley,

Our prayers and thoughts go out to Trooper Dudleys family. It was just a little over 2 years ago that we lost our son-in-law (Jake Laird). Our family knows the pain that you are going through.

What a great, kind and courageous man Lt Dudley was. He has set an inspiring example for the younger troopers and I'm sure he will never be forgotten. We can rest assured that we are all safer with law officers like Lt Dudley protecting us.

Again, our hearts go out to your family and I hope they find comfort in knowing what a great and caring man you were and that you contributed so much to our community.

Trooper Dudley:

Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. The family of survivors will take care of your family and friends the way you took care of us. I will never forget that you died raising awareness and funds for my family and families like us, and now yours is one of us. Thankyou, and have fun hanging with my uncle Tracy!

Having come home for a brief break in Iraq, I had a duty to honor a man I never even met. As I stood along with several people on Main St. in Brownsburg I watched an emotional line of police vehicles from all around this state, and several other states. Then I felt a slight amount of rain, and then I thought about the old saying, "if it rains during a funeral, the angels up above are crying." All the stories I have read over the last few days, and how many lives were changed, and altered by one man. I wish I had a chance to meet him, ask him to share some thoughts with me so I can lead the life he followed. All the previous officers who come in contact with him must honor his legacy, and lead the life he provided the path for you. RIP Lt. Dudley. Say hi to Jake for me.

It's amazing how one of the saddest occasions I have ever seen, the funeral of a fallen Officer, can make one feel such a sense of Brotherhood and Pride. The turn out of fellow Officers from far and near is a sad and wonderful thing. You rest now Brother and enjoy your new beat. You have earned that right in the most Honorable way. I'll keep and eye on Dan for ya.
Everyone else...BE SAFE!

Where to start...Gary, I will always remember you. Your heart was as pure as any I have ever met. I will never forget that first year when Bruce put the Unity Tour together and your ride to DC. What an incredible journey. I worried so much about all of you, I thought I would never survive! When you took over and made the decision to ride for Indiana survivors, to give the money to those who needed a hand up...when so much was made about the wall, and you saw the bigger picture, that made you special to so many survivors. You understood our journey. I'll never forget you coming to our picnic with a $7000 check for Ohio COPS. That made such an impact on so many lives. And they all remember you for that. I have shed many tears since last week, and I will shed many more. I received an email from Abby Corder today. She received an email from you the week before you died. It was a "chain" email, expressing your love of God. She shared it with all of us. You see, Gary road for Deputy Tanner, who was gunned down in the line of duty in Zanesville, OH in 2000. Gary rode to DC in his honor, as well as the other officers who had given the ultimate sacrifice. It was in Zanesville that you met Abby. She has shed many tears for you. But that's what you did, you made people love you because of your heart. Always giving, giving, giving. I remember you riding your bike at the memorial for 24 hours to raise awareness for "your" cause. That cause was us. The survivors. I moved on from Ohio COPS ~ after giving over 8 years of service to Ohio's survivors. I have moved out west to start a new life. But one thing I have learned ~ you can never outrun the pain of losing a friend. I think about all of the people I have met in the past years with my involvement with COPS, and losing you has made me very aware of how fragile life is, and how quickly it can be taken away. I don't take anything for granted, but now that you are gone, I will vow once again to live for today and thank god he gave me one more to cherish. We will take care of Carolyn. She unfortunately has entered into one of the most caring, loving families that no one ever wants to be a part of. You have my word, we will help her through the rough times, and we will help her to remember the good ones. You will live forever in all of our hearts. You were my true hero...and I will always love you.
