Eric:
Though we never met, upon hearing of your death, I can' help but feel that a piece of me, and every law enforcement officer in America, has died with you. You were, and will always be, a member of the law enforcement family. And in us, you WILL live, forever.
Not everyone can be a polce officer, but you were, no, are one, forever. It takes a special person to wear a badge and carry a gun. It takes a special person who is willing to stand up for others who can't stand up for themselves, knowing that in standing up for others, you are going to get hurt in doing so. It takes a special person who is willing to leave his or her family on holidays, birthdays, special occassions, and try to help others. For that, my brother, God bless you.
Our troops in the field are fighting terrorists abroad. But we, are fighting them here in the homeland, domestic or foreign. Our job here, is no less important, but just as deadly. Yet you answered the call of the wolf at the door, and you made us all proud. Rest assured, Eric, that justice WILL be served, and your valor will be an inspiration for ALL of us, to carry on.
My prayer for you is that you smile down on the rest of us from time to time, as you patrol the streets of Heaven with the Lord. And may His love and tenderness be never ending to your family. Amen.
