Reflections for Corporal Eric E. Sutphin

Another warrior has joined the ranks of too many soldiers before him. You lived a warrior's life, proud and strong. You died protecting those who cannot protect themselves. May Jesus gladly swear you in as you join His Heavenly force, where you will no doubt be proud to guard the Throne of God.

Sleep peacefully, my brother. You have earned your rest.

Lieutenant J.D. Ross
El Paso County Sheriff's Office

Corporal Sutphin, you define the word hero and we are all at a terrible loss due to your murder. It's especially appalling that it was at a time when help for injuries was being obtained for this 'person' that he first killed. May he face true justice for his actions.

God Bless you and Rest in Peace, Brother.

May the hospital Security Guard also Rest in Peace, he too is family.

I did not know Corporal Sutphin personally but he was a very visual man of the community. He was always around supporting the children of this community at sporting events and in some way touched everyone. He will be missed deeply and his family will be in many prayers.

Eric,
Your short career has been ever changing for both good and evil. You won the first battle stopping a cop killer in 2003 and the brothers and sisters in blue could not be more proud. Unfortunatley another killer of public safety was on the loose. This battle was lost and will not be forgotten. We will continue to fight the war in your honor and those of others who fell behind the thin blue line. We will pray for your precious family throughout these long days ahead. Keep the heavens safe and watch out for the rest of us for now you serve as our angel.
Our prayers are also with the Security Officer who also made the supreme sacrafice and saved another Deputies life.

Eric,
I couldn't believe what I heard when my phone rang. "It can't be true." I told myself. But it was. I will always remember how "squared away" you were. Always in the right place and never a wrinkle in your uniform. You were a cops cop. Protect the streets of heaven brother. See you soon.

To Mrs Sutphin
I can only imagine the pain you are going through. I hope you will take comfort in knowing that Eric’s love for you will live on forever. You and your daughters will be in my prayers and I promise that Eric’s memory and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

To Corporal Sutphin’s daughters
I hope some day you will understand how special your father was. He loved you and you gave his life meaning. Know that your father died protecting freedoms most people take for granted. As you grow up, never question your father’s love for you. He died doing his very best to make the world you will grow up in, a better, safer place.

To my brothers and sisters of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
My heart goes out to all of you. Recognize you must come together and go forward with the knowledge that you are filling in the gap of the Thin Blue Line left by Eric’s death. I know you will carry on in spite of this tragedy; because like our fallen hero, you are aware brave men and women must continue to place themselves in harm’s way to honor his memory and to safeguard your community.

No amount of words from any of us can ease your grief and suffering at the lost of your husband, Father, and bother officer. But remain strong in your faith and know god as a plan for us all. Take comforted in knowing you will see Eric again as we walk the streets of heaven. To the family of Deputy Eric Sutphin I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. All the law enforcement community across the country feels you’re lost as well, we to have lost a bother in the fight. So it’s with a heavy heart we send our deepest sympathy to your family and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Rest in peace Eric job well done, you may be gone but know you will never be forgotten

YOU ARE IN MY THOUGHTS AND I PRAY THAT GOD WILL GIVE YOU COMFORT AND STRENGTH YOU WILL NEED IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AND FOR THE COMING YEARS. IT WILL NEVER GO AWAY, YOU ALWAYS WILL REMEMBER, BUT HOPEFULLY THE GOOD MEMORIES WILL BE MORE THAN THE SAD.

DEDICATION TO A FALLEN OFFICER
A MILLION TIMES WE HAVE MISSED YOU,
A MILLION TIMES WE'VE CRIED,
IF LOVE COULD HAVE SAVED YOU,
YOU NEVER WOULD HAVE DIED.
THINGS WE FEEL MOST DEEPLY,
ARE THE HARDEST THINGS TO SAY,
OUR DEAREST ONE, WE HAVE LOVED YOU IN A VERY SPECIAL WAY.
WE OFTEN SIT AND THINK OF YOU,
AND THINK OF HOW YOU DIED,
TO THINK WE COULDN'T SAY GOOD-BYE,
BEFORE YOU CLOSED YOUR EYES.
NO ONE CAN KNOW OUR LONELINESS,
AND NO ONE CAN SEE US WEEPING,
ALL OUR TEARS FROM ACHING HEARTS,
WHILE OTHERS ARE STILL SLEEPING.
IF WE HAD ONE LIFETIME WISH,
A DREAM THAT WOULD COME TRUE,
WE'D PRAY TO GOD WITH ALL OUR HEARTS,
FOR YESTERDAY AND YOU.

GOD BLESS YOU.

With all of the difficult things we have to deal with on a day to day basis, the hardest is saying goodbye to a friend. Words cant express how much you will be missed. You were an example to us all. Just a couple of weeks ago at a memorial softball tournament for fallen officers, my daughter skinned her knee. It was Corporal Sutphin who went out of his way to make sure she was ok. It was acts like this that he did every day that made him such a great person. Always going out of his way to see how your day was going. Thank you for being my friend Eric.
