Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Corporal Eric E. Sutphin

I will never understand the pure evil we face in the world. It is frustrating @ difficult at times to continue the good fight. Some stay strong and continue the fight and some understandably leave. Most of the general public have no idea what struggles police officers and their families deal with on an every day basis. You and your family stayed, continued, and fought the good fight until the very end. You all are heroes and god will bless you.Thank you my brother, for making the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you to your family for also making the ultimate sacrifice. Rest in peace you good and faithful servant.. A TRUE HERO......

The pain of this incident is felt thousands of miles away. Sleep in peace, my brother in blue. You are in a much better place now. You and your wife and family along with the hospital security guard that was also killed, are in my thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with Corporal Sutphins wife, daughters and family at this difficult time. May you feel comfort in your loss, knowing that your husband, father and son carried out his oath to protect and serve.
His acts of courage and bravery both on this day and May 9, 2003 kept many other people out of harms way. He will always be remembered, for the law-enforcement family is strong and does not forget when a brother is taken.
My prayers are also with the Sheriff's Office. Your intense search protected many lives on the Virginia Tech campus and your many, many sleepless hours are over. May you now mourn and reflect on the loss of Corporal Sutphin.
Corporal Sutphin you gave the ultimate sacrafice without hesitation. Montgomery County has lost a fine deputy. Your unselfish acts of bravery showed that you were a true warrior. May God bless you and welcome you to Heaven.
Hopefully, I will one day have the pleasure of backing you up on the streets of Heaven.

HEROES
Major Duke Briley, US Army

They didn't seek thanks or any praise for a job tasked out to do. It is taken as a given, they're there when you need them, forever willing, tried and oh so true.

Always ready for the call, the last they did receive, They stood to fight and die for in all that they believe.

Duty is not a hollow word and dedication is a creed, The flag and freedom, that we honor, our words are backed by deeds.

I will ever wonder, and ask the question, why dear lord, just why? They had to go, a family cries, another hero dies...

I see their faces in my dreams, tough and young and brave. They were good men we loved them all, we wish they could have stayed.

The hollow words mean nothing, or the blame for what went so terribly wrong. Our fallen comrades, they lay asleeping, will never hear, that same old tiresome song...

We bow our heads and wipe our eyes and look to a brighter day, Remembering and forever proud, those whose motto’s thusly read: "de oppresso liber, we do not quit, and we lead the way..."

I am very grateful for all those who like Cpl. Sutphin, sacrifice such a large part of their lives to keeping us safe. The news that Cpl. Eric, It was great to see you Saturday night at the Shell Station since I had not talked to you in a while. Little did I know that Sunday morning would be the last time I got to talk to you and I told you to be careful over there and you said don't worry we will. I told you I would catch up with you Labor Day Weekend when I was in town again. Eric you were always there whenever I needed someone to talk to and could always give me good advice and I was always so appreciative of that. You were and always will be my hero. I will always remember you with your smiling face, I don't think I ever saw you and you weren't smiling. You will be greatly missed by everyone.
