I knew and served along side Eric at Ft. Ritchie, MD. We were both squad leaders in the same MP platoon, and a short time later as Desk Sergeants, and members of the Ft. Ritchie SRT unit. I just found out today of his death. My heart goes out to his family. I can clearly see him in my memories. Rest in peace my friend.

I think about Sutphin at least once per week. I have a rubbing from the Wall in case I am tempted to forget (which I never will). I rode with him many a time when we both worked in Charlottesville. I learned from him and had good times. He used to bring me those cans of Virginia peanuts. Though many of the topics of our discussions have faded with time, I will always remember him as a good person, a good cop and a friend. Rest in peace.

My son, Chase Kominek, won the Cpl. Eric Sutphin award for courage this weekend at the Big Blue tournament at Christiansburg HS.
I can tell you being the son of a retired police officer, this would have made his grandfather very proud. We are all very proud and he is very honored to have this award. This is something that will stick with him more so than his wrestling achievements. He said he would always hang the plaque on his wall and carry on your legacy.
From my family to yours, sorry for their loss and thank you for your service.

Thinking of you today and mourning your loss. Hard to believe 8 years have passed. I hope there is a heaven and from there you are able to see your beautiful girls grow up. I hope there is a hell and justice will finally be served. Bless you, friend and protector.

Even though I never had the honor of working along side you, it is an honor to work with the men and women you left behind six years ago today. You left behind a great legacy and great memories for your family, friends and coworkers. You, your family, friends and coworkers are in our thoughts and payers. Rest In Peace brother.
