If Tears Could Build A Stairway
If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane
We would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you back again
No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why
Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know
But now we know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store
Since you’ll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you’ll always stay

Dear Lisa and family,
I think about you and your family often. At night you're all in my prayers. I do not pretend to know the extent of your pain, but I pray that you know..we will never forget Chris. I gathered from the funeral that he was quite an amazing man. I met him once at the traffic office, as I was dropping off cookies to a friend. I asked him if he would like one of the cookies...he smiled real big and said "oh, No" ,while rubbing his belly, and then said "my wife says I gotta watch my weight." It was a really funny moment-we all kinda laughed, some of the other guys gave him a little hard time, but he took it well. Lisa, I'm sorry that I can't ease your pain, but I can promise to pray for your strength and courage knowing that Chris is watching over you and your family.

Aloha Corporal Christopher Metternich,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.
I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.
As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.
Corporal Christopher Metternich , I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.
--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...
THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"
THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

Well its been almost two months and we are missing you everyday. I know that you are looking down on your motor brothers with such pride after this weekend. They all miss you dearly and ride everyday for you. The proudest though is Sage. He smiled all day Saturday and he was truly a motorman. We felt you with us through out the entire competition and hope you are pleased with all that was done in your honor. You should be proud of your family as well as they live everyday remembering you and letting the world know how wonderful of a man you were. We miss you dearly Chris and love you!

Chris:
It has now been a little over two months since you left us. You are still missed every day by those of us that were lucky enough to know and work with you. As we are several days away from our Motorcycle Rodeo, I know that you are looking down and watching us. I hope the "St. Christopher" exercise looks good to you, you know why it is there.
Thank you for keeping us strong.

Mrs. Metternich,
I have no words such a lost of your husband. I never had the pleasure of meeting Christopher, but you should know that in my opinion he was a member of one of the MOST ELITE motorcycle units in the nation. I had the privilege of being trained by two members of the Baton Rouge PD Motorcycle Unit. My prayers are with you and your children.
