To Joselito Barber,
I can imagine your excitement as you awoke on that Sunday morning at the God awful hour required to attend a first watch roll call. You drive into work, the streets alive with many your age just finishing a Saturday night of revelry, unaware that a wolf is lurking around the City looking for it's prey. You knowingly put your self in harms way when you get dressed for shift in awe, as I am every day, that you are lucky enough to do a job that you love. You reflect on your future, that of a husband, a father and a police officer.
You attend an understaffed roll call without consideration of the potential safety risks to you, only the thought that you will do more with less, as is the nature of one who puts on the uniform and pins on the badge. You joke and laugh with those who are still only half awake and burned out from the job. You log into service and proceed to start your watch, to guard your city, like the proverbial sheep dog that guards it's flock.
Innocently enough you enter that fateful intersection and unknowingly do what no other officer was able to do that night, save the flock from the wolf who would settle for nothing less than blood on this day. You undoubtedly saved one or many of our flock that morning with your unselfish desire to serve and protect. For this, I am so proud to call you my brother in blue, even though I never had the honor of meeting you.
To Joselito's family,
Thank you for sharing "Lito" with us. Know he died a hero, saving lives, in what I feel is the greatest and most rewarding job in the world. His memory will be honored and cherished by those who he inspires to follow in his footsteps.
My family's thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We once again have lost a part of the brotherhood of law enforcement. These times are difficult and the family and department has a long road of recovery ahead of them. The staff of Cops Evangelist Ministries would like you to know that we are and will continue to pray for you in this time of sorrow. Remember that God will not give you more then you can handle. Philippians 4:13 says…I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.

I am sorry to here about the sudden and traget death of a young officer. My deepest sympathy to the Barber family and PO Barber's fiancee. My brother and I retired as police officers and we know that there are many challenges, sacrifices and demands of having a LE career. The question is why did we start a career in LE?. It is because like you, we believe in honor, pride and interigty; to keep peace; to serve and to protect people in our community. Unfortuantley, you gave the ultimate sacrifice that so many of us take for granted and that is enjoying life with our family and freinds. However, you and your family will not be forgotten. God bless you brother Barber.

Officer Barber,
When we start in this profession as a young officer, we generally look to those who have years of experience to guide us in our journey and to help keep us safe in this dangerous yet fulfilling career. Very seldom do you ever hear of any officer saying that they have learned something from an officer with so little time in a department. It is in tragic times like this, that we all realize that no matter how much time you have in any department, there is always room to learn from those with less time you. You have taught many, that in the five months that you served with the Seattle Police Department, no matter how much time you have in, the ultimate sacrifice that you made is only a short distance from all of us. Your five months as an officer has impacted us all, from the 25 year "salty" field training officer to those who are just now beginning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family, friends, and our brothers and sisters that serve with the Seattle Police Department. Rest in peace brother, we have the watch.

The tragedy that took your life was felt all the way down here in Conroe,Texas. One of our Lieutenants was vacationing in Seattle and brought back to us the story of this senseless criminal act and horrific tragedy. Rest in peace my brother. You will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers will be with your family for a long time yet to come. May God Bless.
