Officer Clearman, I did not have the good fortune to have met you. But I know what you stood for and that you were a man of honor. Rest in peace, Sir. Semper Fidelis.

I was saddened to learn of your death today. My heart goes out to your family and co-workers. May God grant them peace and comfort during the days and years to come. As a former Marine and police officer and the father of a Marine I was especially touched by your death. As police chaplains my wife and I will be reaching out to your family to support them in anyway we can. God speed Brent and thank you for being who you are.

Soon my only son will be laid to rest. I still cannot wrap my mind around this tragedy that has happened to our family. All I know is that we are supporting one another and we will get through this. Brent, we love you deeply. We'll never forget you. Your shining spirit will live on through us. I am stunned by how many lives you touched in your brief stay on this earth. It seemed that you had a bright and happy future ahead of you. What an immense loss to us and to the world. You had so many great qualities and so much to offer to make this world a better place. I will always love you and miss you, my dear son. Your mom

Brent ... I didn't recognize the name at first, then I saw your face. I was shocked. I remembered your smile ... you booked a few in custodies in our jail while I was working. You always had a smile on your face and were upbeat when you stopped in. I am saddened by this whole story.

May your family find the peace they need.

May you continue to cover the great highways above us as your partners will continue to keep the highways safe down here in your honor.

Rest in peace.

It was with great sadness today that I read about Brent in the Chinook Observer. I ran with him in Cross Country during high school at Ilwaco. I'm proud to have known him and his younger sister Amy. My families thoughts and prayers are with his family during this terrible time. May God bless his soul.

MANY OFFICERS DON'T THINK THE JOB OF A HIGHWAY PATROLMAN IS HARDWORK. CONDUCTING TRAFFIC STOPS AND INVESTIGATING TRAFFIC COLLISIONS ON THE FREEWAY DAY IN AND DAY OUTAS SPEEDING TRAFFIC PASSES BY. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A DANGEROUS JOB WHICH YOU WERE NOT AFRAID TO DO. REST IN PEACE BROTHER YOUR BRAVERY WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

Brent and I met in high school in Ilwaco, WA where we were team mates on our Cross-country and Track teams. Even though he was two years younger than me, he challenged us and helped us to push ourselves harder. Even later when we were both in the Marines he provided motivation to me as he caught up to me as a SSgt. Though we did not stay in constant contact, when we did run into each other, it seemed as though we had just talked the other day and remained great friends. Fair winds and following seas Brent, we will always remember you.

Brent was a classmate of mine in Cadet Training Class III-04. Brent was a quiet, serious, determined classmate who was always respectful and took training at the academy to a higher level than any other cadet. To improve his running, Brent would run an additional 3-4 miles at night while the rest of us were in our dorm rooms. To assist classmates, Brent would offer additional training on vehicle stops, weapons handling, etc. on Wednesday nights while the rest of us were going out to dinner. At the shooting range, Brent was constantly being challenged by the range staff and he would usually match or beat the range officers' skills. Brent was an Officer who was certainly going as far in this Department as he would've aspired to. His training, perserverance, and loyalty set him apart from the outset, and he was duly recognized for this at his services held yesterday. We will all miss Brent and it will be a very long time before another individual similar to Brent enters the CHP ranks.

God Bless you Brent,
May we all give as much to training as you did.
Alex and the entire class of CTC III-04.

With all you gave to your country and the State of California, it’s so especially sad that one lone jerk took you from all who loved you. I know that the driver responsible will see justice done, here or in the next life.

For your service to all of us, God Bless you and Rest in Peace, Brother.

Brent:
Thank you brother for your loyal service. We didn’t have enough time here and I will always regret that. You have taught us so many things. It was my greatest honor to speak about you today. It was also an honor to meet your wonderful family. I wish so much we could have met them all at a picnic with you still here. Your brother and sister CHP officers and Marines miss you so much.

The streets of heaven are in good hands under your watch.

I know that all who has served, known Officer Clearman have lost a wonderful person because his legacy is two fold because he was in the military also. What a wonderful person he must be to all, and a wonderful hero.
“In The Line Of Duty”
In Memory Of All Police Officers
Who Have Been Called To Make The Ultimate Sacrifice
What is the meaning of "In The Line Of Duty"
It means that an officer made the Ultimate sacrifice.
It means that someone took an officers life.
A hero has fallen. Officers who gave their all
To protect and serve us
Have been killed by someone whom they swore
To protect and serve.
It means that their badge will no longer be on their chest
And they will join "The Best Of The Best"
It means that family and friends are left behind
To deal with the lost of a loved one.
Only having the memories of that loved one
Close to their hearts. Something no one can ever take away.
It means that family members will stand at the officers grave and wonder why... Why would someone take an officers life
And leave them there to die?
If we only knew. Today an officer will place their badge on their chest
To fulfill the dreams of heroes killed
"In The Line Of Duty
Thank you for your courage, and we will keep your family, and loved ones in our prayers
God Bless You All
