My deepest sympathy to your family and close friends. I know the pain your family is suffering right now, especially your parents. There are no words I can offer to help them with their grief except to take one day at a time and keep your memory alive. Talk to anyone who will listen about your son, husband, father, brother and stay close to his friends and let them tell you stories about him that you will cherish forever. Brent, keep watch over your family and wrap your wings around them and help them with thier grief. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten.

CPL Clearman,

I'll refer to you as "CPL" as that is how I fist met you. You assisted and trained me to become a Scout Sniper within your platoon at 1st Battalion 5th Marines. I'll never forget my indoct into the platoon and how much of a "hard ass" you were on all of us. That toughness and discipline is who you are, and I thank you for that. You are a big reason why I am the man that I am today. The nearly three years we worked together is times I'll never forget. I dedicate myself within this department that we both love to harness crimes related to vehicular manslaughter. Protect "The Gates" brother and Semper Fi.

Semper Fi Marine. Rest in Peace, you have earned the long restful sleep that God gives his warriors. See you someday and hope to meet you then. Until we do, we will continue the fight.

I never got to meet Brent in person, but I trained his wife Cathy at Golden Gate Communications Center for two months. Spending that much time, so close to a person, you learn so many things about their life. I learned alot from Cathy. I learned alot about her husband too. What they shared was a very unique and deep love and a special commitment to each other. My heart goes out to the entire Clearman family. To Cathy, I know how proud you were of Brent and rightfully so. Brent will be missed greatly.

It is with deep sadness that I leave another reflection. My sincerest sympathies to Officer Brent's family and to the CHP family. This continues to be a tough year for all of you. I am very thankful for all that Officer Brent did for his country and his state. I am continually thankful for all of the hard working CHP officers. You all render great service to all of the people of California. You are all greatly appreciated. I will continue to pray for all of you. Once again, thank you!

I never had the privilege of meeting Brent, but as a former Marine and current police officer myself, I can attest to his character. I know the calibre of man it takes to achieve & claim both titles. Brent was a member of not one but two very elite fraternities, the US Marine Corps & Law Enforcement (CHP Chapter). When I graduated from boot camp I had a drill instructor tell me..."There will be wars and Marines will die, but as Marines you will live forever in the name of the corps". Brent will always be with us...every time you hear the Marine Corps hymn or see a California Highway Patrol car cruise past on patrol, he's there!!
From your extended family here in Michigan...God Speed brother and Semper Fi Marine.

God speed, Troop. Thank you for your service to country. May those you leave behind know that you are a true American hero and that your short time here is appreciated by all. Walk with ALL of the others who are there to welcome you. Know that you did not die in vain. Thank you.

Brent,

It was an honor to assist with your burial here in Oregon. Though we have never met, I was told by your family/friends what a dedicated Patrolman you were. Thankyou for your service. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

Brent,

As we tumbled down the side of Mt Shasta together, for what ever we were angry at each other for, I still had the outmost respect and admiration for you. As my neighbor for 3 yrs, I further learned that you were more than just a great Marine. You were one of the most honerable men I've ever had the pleasure to meet. You made an impact on my life and I'm sure many others. Some people had dreams handed to them, some got lucky. You just took charge and made things happen. I will always remember you and respect you. California was a better place with "HERBIE" on watch.
