You will be missed by all whose lives you have touched. I had the pleasure of knowing you through taking care of your younger son. I will never forget your joking face and vivid smile. You lived everyday for your family.Your boys were the most important thing in your life aside from your wife. You loved your job so much that in the end it took your life. To Trish and the boys--hang in there, you will make it through and know you are not alone.

Sometimes you feel a gentle breeze
to lift your spirts anew.
It is there way of giving hugs
to guide and comfort you.

When you lay in bed at night

Scott I remember your first few months working with us on 3-11. You were funny with that sparkling new uniform, but you already knew what it took to be a good cop and get the job done. I'll take the memories of several years and some strange situations with me forever. Your loss is something that we will never get over because people like you don't come into a life everyday.
You've given the ultimate sacrifice but now you can rest in peace brother, your shift is over.

Scott, What can I say that everyone else has not already said or thought about you. I try to keep busy here to prevent me from thinking about this horrible event. I leave work and my eyes will forever look at where you fell. I get sick in my stomach thinking about that night. I get scared when the phone rings at night thinking that the voice on the other end of the phone will tell me another loved one has fallen. I will never forget you and know that you and your family will always be in my heart.

Mike, take care of Scott up there and show him the beat. The Lord has taken two of the best Officers/men this department could offer. I know you will watch over us and guide us throughout our tours and I can not thank you enough.

Scott, thank you for being a friend and brother. God bless you and your family in this hard time.

To the boys, your Dad was a great guy; he was doing a job that he loved. I had been one of the many guys that worked along side him at the Berks County Prison for a number of years. Some of the best memories of your Dad were not inside the jail but the fun we had living life after work was over for the day. In the fall every Saturday after the 6-2 shift ended, anywhere between 15-20 middle aged correctional officers would go into the city to play flag football behind the 13th & Union Elem. School for hours, your Dad was one of the two or three guys that was pretty good at playing quarterback even though he was a Cowboy fan we would let him. It was a BLAST! We also played on the Berks County Prison softball team, a sport he loved and thrived at. We were never a powerhouse but we always had a great time. When he finally was excepted by the Reading Police, it was great to see him doing what he had wanted for so long. I stayed behind at the jail for a few years until I also left BCP for a job with State Parole in Philadelphia. Four years later I finally made my way back to the Reading State Parole office. One of my first visitors was Scott with a big grin, "Hey homey, ya ready for some action". We have stayed in contact since that time. We must always remember what he did with his life, he stood for Justice and Order in a society in the midst of a war with itself on Good versus Evil. May Our Lord God Bless this family throughout the lifetime. I will miss Scotty Wertz.
