I did not have the privilige of knowing you, yet you are a brother of mine. I am starting the 2007 Police Unity Tour tomorrow. Each of us wears a bracelet honoring a fallen officer while we ride to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial for Law Enforcement Week. "We ride for those who died" is our motto. I have the privilege and honor of wearing your bracelet to the candlelight vigil where your name will be read prior to being placed on the wall. Your memory rides with me and I will honor your sacrifice at this years Law Enforcement Memorial. I have been wearing badge 58 for 17 years with my agency and your badge number may be your way of saying to me that this is what is meant to be. God Bless you and may peace be with you.

Today is Friday April 27, 2007. I was in my backyard cleaning my motorcylce and getting ready for the Police Memorial ride tomorrow when a familiar voice called my name. It was your sister asking me if I would be attending the memorial ride. With a great deal of pride I answered yes. We talked briefly and then I asked about you. You see, even though she and I are neighbors, it had been quite some time since I had seen and spoken with her. That's when she informed me that you had passed away from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

It was at that moment that I felt the tears coming on. I noticed how strong your sister was though and I knew I had to hold them back. I told her I was embarased that I had not heard the news. Now as I sit here typing this and after reading the reflections others have left, I once again feel the tears coming on. The career you chose was one of the hardest to deal with. Not because of the demands of the job but because of the brothers and sisters we loose each and every year. I only had the pleasure of speaking with you one time and like brother Rios I too regret not having you over for dinner.

Your sister told me that if she knew that I was going to be in the memorial ride tomorrow she would have asked me to carry your flag. I told her that it would have been MY HONOR to do that. You maid the ultimate sacrifice but please realize that you will not be forgotten. Tomorrow during the ride and the ceremony that follows I will be thinking of you and all the other brothes and sisters that we have lost this past year. My prayers go out to your family and to the families of all our fallen brothers and sisters.

In closing, I only hope that you look down on me and think that I am worthy of wearing the badge as you did. I pray that I make you and all our fallen brothers and sisters proud. Rest in peace, We'll take it from here.

It's hard to believe it was that long ago already that we served. I had always thought you would go back to Indiana. The roads we take are good ones, but sometimes things happens that are out of our control. I remember us getting up at 3 in the morning, drinking god only knows how much coffee, so we could teach people to shoot the nine. I miss you man.

--"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." -- Maya Angelou

Aloha Police Officer Peter William Faatz,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.

As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.

Police Officer Peter William Faatz, I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.

--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

Officer Faatz although I never got an opportunity to meet you in person, I followed each and every one of your footsteps through your sister. My wife and I have known your sister for several years. During our visits to the Doctor's Office where your sister works she would talk about your dreams of becoming a police officer when you left the military. I tried to convince her to have you come work for DKPD but she said that your heart was for APD. Oh how your sister enjoyed talking about your daily adventures with Atlanta. I felt proud that you became a police officer with Atlanta. It has been ten months since we seen your sister. Over the ten month period we lost a fellow brother on June 29, 2006, Detective Stepnowski. It is still not easy. On October 30, 2006, I find out from your sister that you were killed in a car accident. Oh how it hurt me to hear that. Your sister was strong when she told me, you know how she is. Oh How it tore me up inside because in this world I will never get to meet you and have you over for dinner. but in the next world I promise that I will have you over for dinner to talk about the job. Be Brave Family Faatz for Officer Faatz is not gone or forgotten, he is serving a higher calling. May God bless you and your family.

A hero is defined as "a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities." That's what you were (and still are) to me, Peter, my hero. You were brave and selfless and I doubt I'll meet another man of your caliber in this life. My heart still breaks when I think about you not being here, but I know that I will see you again one day. Until then, all my love, and know that I will never forget you!

After you rotated back into the civilian world, you left without saying good bye. I tried looking you up on the Purdue University student roster, and called a couple of the Beaufort boys of your where abouts. Until today, Richard Freeman broke the news to me. Honestly, this was not the news I was expecting. You had told me that you were going back to school to finish up your anthropology degree. I never expected you choosing the civilian law enforcement as a career. You would always tell me that you were tired of the Military Police business. Well, devil dog I just want to thank you for galantry and bravery. Also, I want to thank you for all the good laughs we shared and for inviting me down to Atlanta.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Faatz. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Peter, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Peter's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Peter's life was about so much more than the way he died. Peter will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Faatz, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

A Real Hero Indeed
By: Brian Betts

A hero is real; it’s inside all of us.
Some show it everyday,
Some hide it away.
You are a hero, it was your job.
To take criminals off the street,
To keep a community safe.
And sometimes it takes a person,
To lay down his own life for another,
And that is what you did.
And what do we give in thanks.
A coffin draped with the America flag,
A 21-gun salute.
Bagpipes being played, and
Even taps.
What do we have to remember you?
A folded flag, a badge, a uniform.
And slowly we will forget the story.
But one thing that wont be forgotten,
Is who you were,
Who you are
And what you did.
That signifies you a hero Indeed!

Officer Faatz is a true hero indeed. May his family know that he is in a much better place. My prayers and thoughts are with you still!

I was watching Americas Most Wanted when I heard the bad news. I hear you were one hell of a police officer and that you were also a Marine. This is why you are a hero of mine. I leave for Marine Corps bootcamp in 21 days and would like to become a police officer after the Military just like yourself. You have my respect forever. I hate when heroic people trying to save lives end up like this. To the Faatz family; He is a great man, I will have you in my prayers.

The family has my condolences, i do not know the individual but i am sure that he was a great man. I am touched because you never know. It hurts because he was going to an shooting down the street from where i live. He was trying to make it there because he wanted to catch the person who was doing the shooting and little did the ambulance know the guy was already dead. Just another Officer in the line of duty. I am so sorry. Its a shame when you doing the good soething bad always happen.
