Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Michael Anthony Callin

Callin Family - May God hold you in His arms and comfort you. May you find a way to grieve, a way to cope, a way to find peace and a way to heal.

Mike - My husband was your FTO. YOU were the man God chose to be with him when he received the devastating news of his father's death. He will never forget you for the comfort and compassion on that day and as your friendship and brotherhood continued. You will be missed terribly by so many. But just as you were there for him that day, he'll honor your memory and he'll take it from here.

Michael, I was sad to hear you are no longer around. I remember the times you would take the sock puppet from my mom and tease me, sorry I bit you when you did that, I never liked that puppet. I also remember when you tried to teach me a new trick, the one where I was supposed to roll over all the way. Sorry again for biting you when I was scared and didn’t want to do it. Thanks for always being willing to take me outside when I needed a walk. Your presence will be missed!!!

I was truly saddened when I heard the news of what had happened and waited to hear every update about your condition hoping for the best. When word came that you passed on I realized a great person who was a good friend and a great deputy was gone. I will always remember being called into the briefing room with David because you and I were acting like children and needed to be talked to. I will also have the memories of how you loved Wilhemina and would call up when you heard me working to ask how she was doing. Your smile and laughter will be missed. You were a great person!! You will be missed!!!

Hey Mike,
I remember the day you came over to the house to take a look at my new Mustang. We talked about cars for like an hour! You told me what I should get to make it faster, and said that you would help me install everything once I bought it. Ofcoarse you had every intention on helping me put those parts on until you found out that Cpl. Soto had pulled me over for street racing with a Jaguar. Then you came over to tell me that it might not be a good idea to get those parts anymore. LOLOL! I remember the talk that you and I shared about street racing very clearly, you would line up at a street light with another car acting like you are going to race then watch them nail it and get pulled over right in front of you!!! You told me that street racing isn't worth it, with the vehicle I have don't have anything to prove. I know its fast and that's all that matters. Our talk really meant a lot to me.
Ever since I have been a mentor to my friends while in their vehicles, convincing them they have nothing to prove. I have managed to not let any of my friends partake in any street racing since then. Everytime I talk to my friends about the consequences of street racing I think of you. Your stories and talks have meant so much to me!

I'll miss you!

Junior,
I remember when you started in Communications. You were so green and excited to learn everything you could. You went to another level when we started to train you on Radio and I knew you wanted to go to the road and just couldn't wait. When you finally did go to the Academy, you would come up here once in a while all smiles and tell us about it. It seemed like you had found your niche in life. I'm glad that you were able to live out your dream and I am blessed to have known you. I know I'm not the only one up at Comm that will miss you. You will be forever in our hearts. Sleep well Junior.

Mike,
I responded to the perimeter for a fellow deputy, I didn't know who, but it didn't much matter "who". When I heard who it was, I thought, "No, not Mike... it can't be Mike"
Then I immediately reflected back to working in Sector 3. Mike always worked off duty in an apartment complex in my zone. No matter what, big or small, if you needed a back-up, a hand, or just an extra pair of eyes to look for a bad guy, Mike was one it. He was NEVER too busy to help out, regardless of the task at hand. He was just the kind of guy you met and instantly knew he was someone special. He'd give you the shirt of his back if you needed it. Even if it meant being cold himself.
No one could have deserved something like this. Least of all Mike.
To the Callen Family, thank you for raising such a wonderful human being. My sincerest condolences to you all. I find peace in knowing that he's above us all, looking down upon us, smiling because he's in a much better place. Most of all, like always, he certainly has our back.
