How your job has changed over the years, and yet the risks are a constant. The risks to those who watch over those who must be taken from civilized society are always great. So long ago, you put yourself on the line for the sake of the honest and respectable members of society. You were the line of defense that kept good people from being victimized by those who had preyed upon good men and women. How tragic that it cost you your life.

To do such a tough and dangerous job at your advance age (and that's even by today's standards) shows what a gutsy, tough old bird you must have been. I cannot mourn the hanging of the two scoundrels who murdered you and only wish more had joined them in their final dance at the end of a rope. Two paid the price but others deserved the fate.

I respect and admire you. You are a true hero, both in years gone by, and today.

God Bless and may you forever Rest in Peace, Brother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and seventy-sixth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.
