Reflections for Police Officer Nick-Tomasito Birco

To learn of another death in San Francisco among my brothers and sisters is beyond comprehension. My tears fall again. A familiar sadness, ache in my heart once again. The pain your family feels will not be uncommon to me, for I know what your family is going through. My prayers are that you are now with Isaac, to keep him company and trade stories, which every officer has. I pray for your family to have strength.

My family will be there for your family for we now share a bond, the bond of losing a Police Officer.

Nick,

I still remember your eternal smile. You were a dedicated officer, I know that every time you put your uniform on, you gave one hundred percent to the comunity and your fellow officers. I'll miss seeing you in the court parking lot. You always had a story to tell! God bless you Nick.

Nick, I have had the pleasure of knowing you for the past three years. I talked to you almost every day and saw you every other day. I still wait for the phone to ring so you can say "Hey Bacon" and "Bye Fly". Your smile could light up a room and your generosity warmed my heart. I miss seeing you. I miss hearing you. I do not know who I will turn to because it was always you. You helped me through more than you know. The only regret I have is that I never told you how much you meant to me but I think you always knew. I love you!

Hi Birco! We were partners the night before...One of many fun nights where we argued who was gonna pay for each other's dinner and drink, of course, I let you win. Haa. My last funny moment of you was when you accidentally hit your Code 33 button-TWICE! I went over the radio and said, "Good one Birco, THREE time's a charm!" You looked over at me, laughed, and said, "Thanks for diming me out, Patty!"

We were safe when you were working Birco, your were fearless and full of heart! No matter what, you smiled and reassured everyone that there was a positive to be made out of it. You addressed everyone by name and with respect to let them know you were listening. When I didn't feel good you would say, "Its okay, Patty." I heard you tell me that when you passed...My friend, my brother, my fellow Marine. We love you Birco!!!

Tomasito-Birco Family and Friends,
Thank you for sharing a wonderful man, a truly loving and honest smile, and faithful friendship. Nick always spoke of family and friends, trips to Hawaii, surfing, and motorcross. Such a personality and contagious laugh will never be forgotten, we are sorry for your loss and will always be here for you as Nick was for us. Semper Fi!

Your Last Day

We all woke up today not knowing what lie ahead

We put on our uniforms, shined our badges, not knowing that today would be the last day

We all looked around in roll call, smiled and greeted all of our friends

We hit the streets ready for whatever

Then it happened, it all came to an end

Had we known that this was going to be the end, we would have spoke more meaningful words held you closer to our hearts and said
Good Bye

You know stand in heaven, with your head held up high
Badge shining bright
And watch over us all both day and night
