Officer Birco, with the number of those listed as fallen, sometimes I tend to forget individuals, but oddly enough, in the area of Cambridge that the Harvard University Police patrol, Cambridge Street and Felton Street intersect. It’s not in my sector so I don’t drive down it that often, but often enough. I don’t think I’ll be there without thinking of you and your tragic death ever again.
I’m so grateful that those responsible for this were caught. May they reside in prison for a very long and uncomfortable time.
Thank you for your service to your country in the Marines and to the people of San Francisco.
God Bless and Rest in Peace.

Hey Nick,
I went to your wake yesterday and was just in awe of how many people loved and admired you. I think that is what makes it so hard. No one has anything bad to say about you, everything is all good. You would be amazed at how your gym family has just come together. We still put out a step for you and we will never forget you. It is so hard because I find little to no comfort when people say it was your time to go and that you are in a better place because I want you here so badly. I had gym gossip to tell you..hee..hee. You would be so proud of all your friends and family. They are trying to do all they can to get through this difficult time. Love you! Bye Fly!

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Office Birco. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for Nick, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Nick's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Nick's life was about so much more than the way he died. Nick will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Officer Birco, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

Officer Nick Birco was the most kindest, lovable person I knew. His smile lit up any room he entered and his personality was one to be envied. Our station-(Bayview Police Station, SFPD) will miss him dearly. I can't imagine going to work without seeing his big, beautiful smile and positive attitude. He definitely made a wonderful impression on all of us at Bayview Station.
San Francisco Police Department has lost a precioius gem. We will never forget how beautiful of a person Nick Birco was. Nick was such a kind soul and catered to everyone. Nick taught us to smile and even though we had to deal with so much negativity at times, working in what seemed like a war zone, he made the best of difficult times. I never heard Nick complain, and he was a positive role model for new officers at Bayview Station. Nick would give the shirt off of his back, if you were in need of one.
Nick, you were a special person, with such heart and soul. I love you and will miss you terribly. I know you will be watching over us. Someday, we will all meet again and I know you will throw us the biggest party when we do.I will never forget the delicious lumpia you made me! Heaven most definitely gained the sweetest angel!
Love you forever and you will be never forgotten,

To Nick,
Although we have not seen each other for many years, I still remember playing with you at the Golden Gate park when we first came to America.
Although you are gone, I feel proud to say that I had a cousin who made a difference. Nick, may you rest in peace. You are well admired for being a hero and for simply being you.
With thoughts and prayers for the the Birco Family. I pray for your strength, for your grief and for God to be with you during this difficult time.
Your cousin,
Nelissa
