Reflections for Officer David Warren McGuinn

To Ofc. McGuinn and his family,
I didn't have the pleasure of knowing you personally, but those that I work with describe you as a loving, fun guy with impeccable character. I was deeply saddened when I heard another of our brothers that walked the same walk I walk was so brutally taken away from us. Your death wasn't in vain and you are with God in Heaven now, so that gives me peace. My condolescences go out to your family. I pray that God uplifts your name and presence and gives your family the utmost strength and resillience in this time of need. May God's angels flock around your family to protect and keep them and your spirit live on as a valiant warrior in DOC blue.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer McGuinn, especially to his fiancee. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for David, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember David's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that David's life was about so much more than the way he died. David will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer McGuinn, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

I worked with Dave at Atlantic City Medical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey, what a wonderfully delightful man. Dave was kind and caring and always had a smile for all of us on the nursing units. He was loved by the nurses and patients. God, what a great guy. He will be missed by many of us in Atlantic City.

I will remember his smile and wave to come over every time he saw me pull up. A good man and a good officer. He had hopes of doing more within the DOC. After talking with him over the last few months regularly during his patrols of the perimeter and his desires to become a K9 officer and his desire to make a difference in the jails, I was looking forward to having another good man on our team. I wish that I had gotten the chance to work with him. He is already sorely missed. Doing his job to the end...he was and will be remembered as "Homeland Security" to those of us here. Kudos brother on your job and life well done...Rest in Peace.

David, There are no words to express the sadness or anger I fee for the way your life was snatched from you. I hope and pray that your death will not be in vein. You lived a life of integrity and honor, risking your safety in exchange for others. Your reward will be bountiful. May your friends, co-workers, and loved ones find some comfort in that.

Ofc. McGuinn,

Your life and death shall not be in vain sir. We are striving to encourage officers to be uncompromising so that your example will not be the exception, but the rule. I remember you when you came through the Academy and was at a loss for words when I heard of your untimely death. Your valiance is a testament to your integrity and I wish you peace in your resting place.

May God send angels to protect, comfort, strengthen and stabilize your family in your absence and know that your blue family will miss your example.

Your name and example will forever be in my heart and mind. May you be rewarded in heaven for your steadfastness, respectfulness and kindness to others.
