While never meeting David McGuinn in person, I, of course felt the pain of his loss. Anytime an officer's life is taken in the line of duty it pains us. David was near my age, with children like myself. I was quickly brought into the reality of the situation while dressing for work. My five year old son said to me, "Daddy, why are you putting that [mourning shroud] on your badge"? I had to pause for a moment and try to collect words that a five year old could understand without having him fear his Daddy facing the same fate some day. The problem was, the longer I paused looking for the correct words, the more difficult I found it to compose myself. Finally, I sat down and he climbed up onto my knee. I put my arm around him and explained a life lesson. Sometimes there are bad people that do bad things......Being as careful as I could, I could still see the tears welling in his eyes. He then said, "But you work with bad people too Daddy." While the conversation took no more than a blip in the scheme of our lives, the gravity of it will be felt for a lifetime. Yes David was a Law Enforcement Officer, yes he was a Brother in Blue, but he was also a Daddy and the loss of his life will be felt by many forever. Myself and my sons included.
God Bless the McGuinn Family, and bless us all.

To the Family and Friends of our hero and Brother in Blue.
My heart thoughts and prayers are with you.
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

MY HEART IS HEAVY ,I WALK THE TIERS AS YOU DID. I ONLY REGRET THAT I DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO WORK WITH YOU . THE OFFICERS THAT MAKE OUR JOB SO HARD ARE THE ONES THAT DONT OR WONT DO IT WITH THE TYPE OF PROFESSIONALISM AND VIGILENCE YOU DID. I TRANSPORTED TWO INMATES TO MHC THREE WEEKS AGO, I SAW AND SPOKE WITH YOU FOR ONLY A MINUTE. I KNEW YOU WERE ONE OF US. THEY LIVE THERE BUT WE CONTROL IT( MARYLAND CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS DO YOUR JOB)

Fallen Brother in Blue:
I'd like to send prayers to your family and to say THANK YOU for the job and the job countless other Officers perform daily.
Your pefromance is not based on awards but the quiet thanks given to a protector of the innocent. I'd like to give thanks and honor to your family who supported another soldier in this on going struggle.

In this time of harsh realities we must make take notice of TRUE HERO's. Officer McGuinn perfomed a service to which few receive praise or thanks for. In his memory I wish that notice be given to all the Division's Unsung Hero's, the men and women who wear blue.
Please receive our condolences and many thoughts of our fallen comrade and hold his memory near for he will truly never be forgotten.

Officer McGuinn, your vicious murder is another bit of proof of how tough the job of a Corrections Officer truly is. I know your family in the Division of Correction as well as the greater law enforcement family will miss you, but it is your fiancée and daughter who will miss you most of all. I’m sure though, all they’ll have to do it think of you and you’ll be there-by-there sides. May the vermin who did this to you find true justice so as to give closure to all left behind.
God Bless and Rest in Peace, Brother.
