I am at a huge loss for words over this tragic situation. I had heard on the news that a deputy assigned to the STARS center had died in an automobile accident on his way to work. I did not expect to know this deputy as I had participated in the reserve academy which is held after the full-time academy has concluded for the day. I was floored when I heard the news it was Deputy David Piquette. He taught our force training block of instruction over an eight week period. This is truly an enormous loss on both a personal and professional level. Deputy Piquette was a powerhouse on the mat and many recruits admired his defensive skills and ability to make his skills look effortless. Many recruits would gather around during breaks and listen to the many stories Deputy Piquette had to offer. He was very passionate about his job and went to great measures to ensure we all "got it."
I want to extend my deepest condolences to his wife and two children. This sudden tragedy will undoubtedly be a hard one to overcome. You no doubt have the support and prayers of many people as we are all grieving with you. My condolences also go the the staff of the force training bureau. It was very apparent that they were all close personal and professional friends. This news is hard for me and I only knew him as my instructor...I feel for you all as you endure the loss of a husband, father, son, and friend.
God bless Deputy David Stan Piquette! Thank you sir for your dedication and professionalism...you may never know how many lives you have touched in your journey. Rest assured there are many people grieving over your untimley passing.

Dear Family, Friends and Co-workers of Deputy Piquette,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss- how tragic! Know that you will be in the prayers of my family and so many others. As a mother, it breaks my heart to think of a young mother raising twins alone, but just remember, you are not alone! We are promised that the Lord will never leave us or forsake us, lean on Him. And the "Thin Blue Line" family will always be here for you!
Take care, and God Bless.

"Our Greatest Fear"
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officers final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", its our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but its a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some dont come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officers final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", its our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

To the family, friends, and co-workers of Deputy Piquette...I hope you find strength in each other for as long as you need it. Keep the memories fresh, write them down if possible to share with his girls when they get older. Remember the good times, the hysterical ones, the joyeous ones, the boring ones, the inspirational ones, the sad ones, the ridiculous ones, and any memorable time you can think of. Fill yourself up with those memories and know that he is now in a place where he can watch over all of you. My heart is with you all.

Deputy Piquete, my force training instructor. It has only been a few weeks since I left your class. If you ever had any doubt that your teachings got through to me, I want you to know that it has. Not only did you leave a everlasting impression in my mind but you also left an everlasting impression on the entire department. Because of you, members of our department are stronger, wiser, and more courageous. You heard it yourself: Recruits who thought they could never take on agressive attackers now feel they can take on the world. You've brought us from ordinary people to giants. Because memories of you are in my heart, you'll never be forgotten and heros live forever.
