Dave will be missed greatly. He was a warrior, a teacher and a friend. He taught from the heart and truly cared about what he was teaching. He always went the extra distance to insure the safety of his brother and sister officer. That is rare today and he was gifted in how many people he touched with this positive attitude. He pushed you hard and expected the best. He always wanted you to give your best and he brought it out of you. That was Dave, a truly caring person who took matters seriously when training, but was the first to make you laugh when you weren't. He taught a serious subject with great energy. He had a smile that made you want to not only train with him, but know him. I'm sure your training somewhere my brother, you will be greatly missed. Keep 'em "sprawling"

Dave,
As a high school buddy to your brother Rich I was fortunate enough to meet you and get to know you a bit. There was such a strong and positive aura about you that was unmistakable and it was easy to look up to you as a mentor…and all of us guys did. I loved hearing about your progress in the Marines and Sheriff’s Department and I remember the fun we had listening to Rich tell all your stories. Your strength and positive nature will always be with those who knew you. My thoughts are with you now and your family. Rest well, friend.

It was my privilege to work with Dave for the past couple years at the Force Training Unit. I quickly grew to like and respect Dave and I am a better instructor having learned from him. I will miss the "What's up stud" greeting he always had for me and I will miss rollin on the mats with him. We will feel the pain of his loss for a long time, and we will never forget. It is our responsibility, in honor of him, to continue on with the courage that Dave exemplified. Never give up, Train hard, fight to survive. I will miss you brother. JD

Sir,
As a member of the current reserve class who just completed Force Training with you, you always stressed that, on the streets, the bad guys don't know a reserve from a regular, and you were teaching us how to stay alive. Your deep concern for our safety was obvious and will stay with me always. I will honor you by never forgetting those skills you taught me, and by being the best deputy that I can be. In my last class with you, I asked for some assistance on escorting and takedown, which you demonstrated on me. You had me on the ground in a split second. I will never forget how to do that! You gave me confidence that, with these skills, I could fight and defend myself even as a small female.
Sir, you have touched countless lives, and know that you may have saved a few by your dedication to keeping us safe. Rest in Peace.

While it is no consolation for your loss, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow deputies of Deputy Piquette.
While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.
Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

Dave, You and Shawna have a rare, amazing love that could be seen or felt by anyone just standing near either one of you. Shawna’s face would light up when she would receive a text message from you or talk about you, even when she was joking about your quirks. It seems that you guys had it all because of the happiness you filled each other with. And now, the Piquette family has been robbed. It is just so wrong!!
Although her heart has been shattered, Shawna has found the strength to continue because of your deep LOVE for her and your precious children. She knows you cherish her and will look after her forever. You continue to touch her soul as she can feel your presence and you continue to bring her peace. You still amaze her as she is discovering things about you that you were so humble about. You truly live on in your children, not only physically in their appearance, but in their values, strength, sense of family and love that you have instilled in them. You are such a hero to your beautiful babies, not only because of the work you did, but because of the kind of Daddy you are. Although it was mainly through Shawna and only in the last few years, I feel blessed to have known you. I know I will see you in heaven!
To your family, draw from Dave’s strength and humility and continue to make him proud as he stands with you and dries your tears in your times of need. Remember, he can never leave your hearts and has his arms wrapped around you, making sure to protect you always.
To his brothers in Law Enforcement an in the Marine Corps, I feel your pain. I am sure Dave has touched your lives deeply and continues to challenge you to strive to live better each day. For that Dave, I am grateful as your legacy continues to protect the world we live in.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Police work is dangerous enough in itself without being killed by a thief just because he failed to secure stolen property, resulting in a freak highway tragedy. I'm sorry that this happened and may we have hope for the time when death will be no more. (Revelation 21:3,4)

Watts up Dave,
It's hard to believe its been a week. Last Wednesday, before the tragedy, you, me, Mike and Zoltan ran those brutal hill repeats. We were driving around looking for a good hill, you just happened to make a right turn and there it was. We attacked it and had a great workout. Unfortunately that was your last run.
We honored your passion for running today by running it again. The north force team also joined us. We all amped it up as your spirit helped us push through the pain. We decided to call it "Daves Hill".
We also decided that every year on July 7th, we'll get all the curent force unit together to do the run. Of course anyone else willing to participate is welcome.
We miss you,
Cory
