I just thought I would let you know that today I was thinking about the couple times i got to meet you. The week before you left us, you had told me that law enforcement was a great job to get into. You also told me that you were going to let me go on a ride along. Well, I just thought I would let you know that I am now trying to follow in your shoes. They are hard to fill...and I don't know if i can do it. But I will try. God bless, and thank you for taking the time to talk to me. It has had such a huge affect on my life.

You know how bad I miss you.. This morning I was dreaming of you and I swear I felt your arms around me.. I still can't fathom it has been almost 21 months since I have seen your face... I miss you every day and I love you more and more as each day passes.. I walked in the office the other day and Nikko was laying on your picture with his paw on your face.. The furry ones still love you too.. Some days hurt worse than other .. today is that day.... I love you Steppie and forever will..

I just wanted to say thank you. You were a true hero, and one doesn't have to know you to know this. I am greatly saddened by the loss of our heroes in society as there are not enough to go around. I am truly sorry for the loss to your family, but it is indeed a loss to mankind when we lose those that protect us from the evil of society. Without you so many others would have not made it. Your sacrifice is greatly appreciated. RIP. Officer Stepnowski. You were loved by many and your brothers and sisters in uniform as well as us fellow citizens cannot say enough thanks for protecting us and paying such a price.

Just came across this page and thought that I would leave a brief message of support. I knew Dennis only as the brother of an old high school friend. It was ironic to me that after seeing him so many times on the local news and always telling my spouse, "He is the brother of one of the girls I hung out with in highschool", I turn the news on one night to hear of his death and find out he died in the apartments that I grew up in as a small child.

A dear friend of mine is a DeKalb County Detective and I briefly mentioned Dennis to him a few months back and he shook his head and said Stepnowski was an amazing officer and touched so many lives.

Kellie, Brandie, and the Stepnowski family...my prayers have been with you since I first heard the horrible news. I know that Dennis shines down over you, watching and protecting each of you as he worked daily to protect each of us.
