The members and staff here at Chauffeur Internet Radio send our deepest sympathys and condolences to the wife, family, friends and the brothers and sisters who wear the badge of law enforcement. I am known as MamaWolf on the internet radio because I try to keep all of my cubs (whether I personally know them or not) close and try to protect them. Sometimes my flock goes off to protect the rest of us. PO Stepnowski was another who is a hero and protected us all.
"A Part Of America Died",
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

We will honor you PO Stepnowski and keep your family in our prayers and know you are now walking a beat in Heaven with the rest of the countries finest. God Bless You All

Step,

When I saw the new I couldn't speak. When I was able to talk, all I could say was "no, not Step". You were the last Officer I ever expected to go down in the line of duty. You were the most fearless man I have ever known and I believed, as most people who knew you, that you were invincible. You have always been a great friend and someone I felt comfortable calling on for my own moral support, no matter what amount of time had passed since we last talked. You became one of out family when my ex-husband was your FTO and I always felt that he was safe when the two of you were together. Later, you were my rock and the one I called upon to help me through when my husband's career was coming to an end at DCPD. Again, you were there for me (even after we moved away) when my husband and I divorced. You even came to see me when you visited your Grandmother in Gainesville to make sure I was OK. I remember you stopping by to see me when I worked in the ER at DMC to chat or to bring me food when you were working in the area. I can't help but laugh when I recall the time we were chatting on the computer at almost midnight. You sent me an email that you said I "had to see". At midnight both of our computers crashed because the email had the Chernobyl virus. I remember being upset with you and calling you that night to let you know. I guess this really puts it all in to perspective. I would give anything if you could crash my computer now.

You will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your wife and your family.

You came on board at DKPD shortly before my retirement. I recall you as a somewhat shy young officer. You were slight of build but enthusiastic about your new job. At that time you referred to me as 'sir'.

At some point during the 10 years I've been retired, you grew. You grew physically and professionally. You grew courageously and you fought your last battle to the end. I'd like to think we at DKPD had something to do with that -- either in our recruiting or our training. More likely though it was your parents and your wife who supported you and deserve that credit. Nevertheless, we're all very proud of you.

Rest in peace, sir.

^&^ GUARDIAN ANGEL ^&^

AS I SPREAD MY WINGS AND READY MYSELF TO ANSWER THE CALL,
SOME I MAY CATCH AND SOME MAY FALL,
TAKEN FROM EARTH AND SENT ON HIGH,
HEAVEN'S GATES OPEN WIDE,
READY TO RECIEVE THOSE MORTAL ANGELS IN BLUE,
THE ONES WHO PROTECTED AND SERVED ME AND YOU,
THEY SO BRAVELY LAID THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE,
NOW ANOTHER ONE HAS FALLEN ONE MORE TIME,
I SPREAD MY WINGS TO ANSWER THE CALL,
I WILL TAKE HIS SOUL BACK WITH ME,
HE WILL BE DELIVERED FROM ALL,
A THOUSAND ANGELS SHED A TEAR,
AS ONE MORE GUARDIAN ANGEL IS ADDED HERE,
WATCHING OVER ALL OF US FROM ABOVE,
AND STILL PROTECTING US WITH LOVE.

Step, I had the privilege of meeting you while we worked at the G8 Conference. It didn't take long at all to figure out what kind of person and officer you were. While working Tucker precinct, you backed me in that same area more than a few times. When people say that Dekalb lost one of it's finest, that is no understatement. Your reputation preceded you and you will be sadly missed by all. You will be remembered for what you stood for.
