PAUL....MY WIFE AND I SEND OUR DEEPEST THOUGHTS, AND PRAYERS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY, AND TO ALL THE OFFICERS AT THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE POLICE DEPARTMENT. WE ARE VERY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR LOSS. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

After reading all the wonderful and thoughtful tributes to Paul, I am having a difficult time writing this message.
Paul was a fun loving kid who grew to be a wonderful fun loving and caring man.
There is not a single bad thing that can be said about this man.
He was a big strong man, real trooper material, who was as gentle as a kitten.
Boy did he love children, not only his own whom he adored, but any child. You could consider him a big kid at times.
Paul adored his wife and together they were wonderful parents, model parents. Boy was he excited when each child was born. He would have loved to have had more.
Of all the family Christmas parties, cookout, reunions, birthday celebrations, Paul was always helping in any way he could. It seemed like he was always helping someone. I quess that is why he loved his job so much, he could help someone.
Paul spent many summer years volunteering at a camp for handicapped children. Allowing the parents of those children to get some time away from the daily rigors they sometimes face. If you could see the pictures of Paul and the smile on his face and the children’s faces, you knew he was genuine in his feelings for them and them for him. Boy did he love being with children.
Paul LOVED his job as a Massachusetts State Trooper. He admired and respected his fellow troopers as brothers.
I am sure that once Paul’s father and mother get to see these pages, they will be reinforced in what they already knew that they had raised a wonderful caring person who will be greatly missed not only by our family but all those that he had touched in his all too brief life.
He will always be in our hearts.
Thank you so much, your condolences and prayers, they do help to ease the pain that we feel today.

Trooper Barry,
First, thank you for your service to your family. From what I have read from the prior posts by people who knew you, you were a wonderful family man, that is most important. Second, thank you for your service to the Commonwealth and its good citizens.
May you rest in peace with others of the Thin Blue Line that have gone EOW before you. Godspeed, brother.

Here we are again to send our prayers and condolences to the family, friends and brothers and sisters who wear the badge of law enforcement. Trooper Barry, so young and a wonderful future with this family and it is cut short. For some reason God felt it was time to call him home.
Our prayers, and support go out to the family, friends and sisters and brothers who wear the badge for law enforcement.
Lord,
He was yours to give,
and yours to call home,
please stand by his brothers,
so they don't feel alone,
dry the tears of his family,
so they clearly see:
that he gave his all,
so all could have peace.
Blessed are they,
the children of God,
with heavy hearts,
and honor - they trod,
to pay their respects,
to give their salute,
and to ask for your mercy,
on heroes in Blue.
Amen.

Mrs. Barry
Having gone through the pain and horror of losing my husband last year, I can truly understand and feel the pain that your family, friends, and co-workers are going through right now. My heart goes out to you and children. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through these tough times, but there just isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone. I pray that his department wraps their arms around you and gives you all the support you need.
I am home in Heaven, dear ones:
oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed:
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
And he came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread:
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could i have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For i love you, dear family, still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's will.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you, my family, home:
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

Reality
Imagine how our world would be
If every police officer quit
Turned in their gun, turned in their badge,
Just finally had enough of it.
No respect, no loyalty,
No appreciation of all they do,
They’d give their lives for all of us,
These wonderful officers of “Blue”.
Kicked at, spit on,
Punched, stabbed and shot,
Everyday assaults on officers,
Done…without thinking a second thought!
Our laws are in favor of criminals,
There’s always some loophole in their case,
Out again to commit more crimes and murders
…creates pain, that we, the family and friends
…in time will never erase.
Why should they do it?
Why take the risk?
Why put their life on the line?
Subject their loved ones to endless suffering,
When their precious life is lost while fighting crime.
More murders, more kidnappings, more robberies and rapes,
Just to mention a few,
Please ask yourself how life would be,
If there were NO officers in Blue!
Would you do it? Could you do it?
And for how many…would YOU give it all?
Rewards are a 21 gun salute, a Medal of Honor,
And your name gets added to the Wall.
Think about it. Why are they here?
And why do some hate them so?
Because they enforce the laws that put convicts and murderers
In jail serving time, or on “Death Row”.
All give some and some give all,
It’s a risk they chose to take:
To put their heart and soul in it,
To put their lives at stake.
So, please take a moment,
Please give it deep thought,
Think of what “you can do”…
To help show respect,
To help follow the laws,
So we’d quit losing our Heroes in Blue!
