Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Trooper Paul Francis Barry

Maryellen
As Police week approaches I wanted to let you know that you and your family are still in my thoughts and prayers. I will never forget you and the children. You are such a strong lady and hope you continue to stay strong as you approach 2 years. I seem to have lost your e-mail address and hope you still have mine. I will continue to pray for you and your family and still visit our hero's site.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

As we end 2007 and start a new year Paul, you are in every thought. The kids and I carry forward as I know you need us to,and we are greatly comforted and sustained by the love of friends and family. You live on through our beautiful 7 children Paul, and I truly see a part of you in each of them. From your beautiful blue eyes, your strength and kindness, your laugh, and your endless capacity for love and tolerance of everyone - it's all the goodness of you all wrapped up in them, and they are an incredible legacy;a tribute to your life so well lived. It's my honor to care for our family Paul, and I rely on you to help me, like always. We miss you deeply Paul, and love you always. Wherever we go and wherever we are, you are with us also. With all my love - forever, for always and no matter what, Maryellen

You know brother:I remembered you this Christmas.I was at mass on Christmas eve and I saw a young couple with their kids. They seemed to be so happy together, like you and your beautifull family used to be.
Santa brought nice gifts to your kids, but the most importante is to know that their father is a great guy who loved his job and was totally devoted to his family.

I wanna thank you Brother Barry because after you leave this life,I was praing for you and for your kids and your beautifull wife when you sent me a message to become a member of your beautifull church in Dorchester.I whent to visit the church and I was greeted very well for father Finn and he invited me to have a cup of tea and at the table I could share with the parishioners and father Finn why I came to your church. They were very impressed by what I said and I felt in love with your church brother. Now I go to mass every Sunday and participate to the meetings and help the comunity.I also found bealtifull friends there.I live in Brighton but I'm very proud of going to our church every Sunday.Thank you for a beautifull message brother.I still praing for you and your family and I remember you every day brother.Thank you very much.
Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow, but
remember me in every tomorrow.Remember the joy,the
laughter, the smiles.I've only gone to rest for a
while.Although my leaving causes pain and grief,my
going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So dry
your eyes and remember me,not as I am but as I
used to be.Because,I will remember you all and look
on with a smile.Understand in your hearts,I've only
gone to rest a while. As long as I have the love of
you,I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.

When you were born, you were crying
And everyone around you was smiling.
You lived your life so that when you died,
You're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

To my brother and friend, I will miss you always.

Our first day of school comes to a close Paul - I know how proud you are of our beautiful children, as I am. They are all the good things of us Paul, all rolled up in 7 very unique and amazing people. They will grow and go forward in the world Paul, and do all good things, all because you were ever here. We missed you more than I can ever say on this second birthday without you here. The passage of time has only made it harder to go on without you - I know you try to send us all your love and strength, and the children and I will continue to go forward, and honor you always. We are so fortunate to have the sustaining love and presence of family and friends - I am forever grateful for all the blessings you and I receive. Know always how deeply you are missed and loved. Rest easy my beloved husband. I promise you I will see us through. Forever, for always, and no matter what - With all my love, Maryellen

I was using Google to find something that would help me convey my feelings of how my in-laws are an inspiration to me as I create a homemade anniversary card for them and Trooper Paul Francis Barry's memorial site was one of the first listed. I was about to skim over it and go to the next site, but as I realized it was a memorial site- I stopped and took the time to read ALL of the loving and emotional messages. So, here I am, someone in upstate New York who hasn't even been to Massachusetts- sitting at her computer at 10:33 pm - saying a prayer for this fine man - who based on all I read, was a wonderful son, brother, husband, and father. My prayers tonight go out to Trooper Barry and to all of you in his family. God Bless you ALL!

A Wonderful Husband, Father and Friend...............
Paul....as your first anniversary has past, we all take special time to reflect on what the true meaning of "human being" is and how you truly exemplified its definition.

As you watch from heaven above, it comforts me to know that you continue to see the beautiful and loving person your wife, Maryellen, truly is and how deeply and unconditionally she loves you...always....and your seven blessings that fill her heart with joy every day. The love that they all fill their hearts with of their cherised memories and time with you overflows their hearts and will always be plentiful....because the short time they had with you was so meaningful. Please know that we are here, today - tomorrow - and always to help your family in any way they need it.

Not a day passes that I don't think of you, Maryellen and your seven wonderful children. Thank you for sharing your beautiful wife and seven wonderful children with us. May you continue to Rest In Peace, Paul.

My thoughts are with your loved ones on this first anniversary of your EOW. I know the pain they have felt over the past year, especially your parents as there is no greater loss than to lose a child. Continue to keep watch over all of your loved ones, protect them from harm and let them feel your presence around them. Also, keep watch over those still out on patrol watching over the Thin Blue Line. You have not been forgotten.

One year has passed since the Commonwealth lost a fine man due to a tragic accident. Though you have physically left this world, I know you are still with you family, watching over them and giving them guidance.

God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.
