Stewart-it always takes a great deal of effort for me to talk to you now as all my emotions take over and I have a very difficult time typing, not to mention seeing what I'm writing through the constant downpour that flows from my eyes. However, Ive been meaning to update you on how things are going. For the most part things are good; although, I think many of us have found coming home from Iraq and active duty to be more challenging than anticipated. I know that you can identify with that. A couple of things before I forget...SPC Fowler and SPC Zuniga both decided to become police officers upon our return. Oh Yeah, so did SPC Montejano. Actually there were a handful of guys but, I know that you had a direct influence on the fellas that we worked with in Iraq. Not a bad legacy my friend. I attended your award ceremony at the Capitol with your family and your boys from the P.D.; it went very well and everyone seems to be doing fine under the circumstances. I had a chance to visit with your son and he looks amazing Greg! A fine young man who resembles his father in more ways than one. Its sort of funny, everyone wants, especially me, to hug on him and give him kisses. Poor kid probably wonders where all these crazy people came from. Anyway, know that everyone loves your son and will do their best to make sure that he knows what a wonderful father he has and how much you love him. You know, I have this eerie feeling sometimes that you're with me. I still apreciate you watching out for me bro. We were always good like that. Anyway, much love

Just talked to your sister Friday. I hear you are getting the Star of Texas, that is amazing! Your memory will live on forever in the great things you have done. There is no doubt that you have touched more lives that you will have ever realized. I am happy that Charlie will be accepting this honor for you. Thank you for touching my life and encouraging me to be in ROTC that led me into the AF. I will never forget you. All my love, Carrie.

Well, its been almost four months since since we lost you. Still not a day passes that I dont think about you and all the crazy things we did together. All the missions in Iraq and never a scratch. It still hurts me how you were taken away from us. I spoke to your mother today and I will be meeting your parents in Austin next week. It seems people are not finished celebrating your life my friend, as you have been selected to receive the Star of Texas Award. Its the States highest award for first responders. Undoubtedly, you can thank your boys down at the P.D. in Beeville for this one. Anyway, your son Charlie will be there and I'll give him a kiss for you. I sure do miss you.

I have known Greg since we were kids in High School. I am proud to say that Greg was my friend. He was an amazing kid who grew into an even more amazing man. I remember Greg wearing his ROTC uniform with such pride! The shoes shining and the pants pressed.

I forgot to mention: Charlie will be fine. He has a fine father and that DNA is in him and he will come through. The world has a way of taking care of things that need taking care of. It's called Karma. Charlie will know his father and his father's family who are, of course, the most honarable people on the planet.

Dearest Greg,
There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about you. I miss you so much. You were a great man and a wonderful leader. Thank you for being who you are and thank you for being someone we can all look up to. The days are passing so fast and I can't belive you've been gone almost two months. It's amazing the lives you've touched. When we were kids I thought your police play was just play. You proved me wrong. Rest in Peace, Officer Stewart. You are a true hero. We love and miss you.

Greg and I worked together as jailers at the Atascosa county jail. He was fearless and never backed down from anyone. I went to work for the PD and he went to McMullen County SO. We would periodically run into each other every now and then. He was a real class act. I was floored when I heard he had passed on. It hurts to have to bury another one of our brothers in blue. I last saw him around a month before he was shot. I handed him a job application and asked him to come work for us because I knew he was "a good hand". He smiled and said he would think about it. I knew he was happy where he was at. I respect him for that. I know that Mark Stephenson, Thomas Monse and Terry Miller were waiting at the pearly gates to welcome you home. Until we meet again Amigo!

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Patrolman Stewart. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the news reports and all the reflections left for Gregory, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Gregory's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Gregory's life was about so much more than the way he died. Gregory will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Patrolman Stewart, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three years but we still miss him terribly.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends and all the members of the Beeville Police Department. We were made safer by his service and we all suffer their tragic loss. The family of Patrolman Stewart deserves our appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifice. No greater love has a man than the will to give his life for another. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Patrolman Stewart is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
