Another morning has approached as I think of Jason again. One of the many officers who swore to serve and to protect, and gave up his life in the very end. That fateful day is something that I am not allowed to forget. It is that memory that reappears each time I put on my headset. And when I sit in front of the radio and dispatch my officers to a priority call, I silently hope and pray that I hear them clear, instead of hearing them take a fall. You see, we always read their vioces and sit up when we sensed any tension or fear. But now, more than ever, it is their voice we want to continue to hear. When one of our officers is lost in the field we are left with an empty space. And in our hearts it is perceived, that Jason will never be replaced!!
As dispatchers' our job is to ensure our officers are safe and go home at the end of their shift, when that doesn't happen, they don't just not go home to their families, but they don't come home to us.
Jason, your girls and guys in grey miss you dearly. Please watch over your fellow officers, light their path during thier time of grief.

It is comforting to read all the thoughts and prayers on this website. I too would like to offer my condolences to Jason's family.
Jason is truly a hero. He was trying to save the lives of his fellow Officers. Cpl. Jason Makowski will truly be missed. Our department will never be the same.
For those of you wondering what he was like, I would like to tell you a little bit about him. Jason was very intelligent and highly educated (Masters U of M). He could have gone into any profession he wanted, but he chose law enforcement because that was in his blood as his father was a detective with the department.(retired)
He was extremely talkative and never at a loss for words. He would talk your ear off if you let him. I enjoyed having him on my shift. He was a hard worker. He was very charismatic and a true leader. Rookies and Veterans alike looked up to Jason. He loved to tease everyone. He used to tease the rookies about looking so young, and the veterans about gaining a few extra pounds. He was consciencious and articulate. He kept the supervisors on their toes.
It will be very quiet at the PD without him.
I would like to recognize some of the heroes on that tragic day. Officer K. Myers, Officer Cotton, Sgt. Nason, Officer Kendziora, Officer Beaudrie, Officer Oblak, Officer M. Meyers. The list is long and includes several more officers and dispatchers, and I can't possibly list everyone. All the Officers did a terrific job and nobody could have prevented this tragedy.
I would also like to thank all the area departments for their support, ecspecially Dearborn PD who took over our patrols so the Officers can be home with their families.
Rest in Peace Jason. We love you Brother!

My deepest sympathy goes out to J's family and friends.
I would like to say that I am proud to have worked with J, not only because of the act of heroism he displayed, but because of the way he was in general. He didnt have to respond to Norborne that day, but he did. I only wish I could have been there too. Even though he had other officers with him, I think we all consider "what if I was there?, could I have changed something?" J, I am truly sorry that I wasn't. You will always be remembered.
May you Rest in Peace, Brother

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following that path God laid to me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
to laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too shall miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wanted me now; He set me free.
Jason, you have moved on and left us behind. Please watch over us and put in a good word for us with Him for when it's our time to see you again.
