I did not know officer Darden well. I met him at the City garage while I was repairing his patrol car. I remember him as being an officer that took pride in his attire as well as his vehicle. Everything was neat and in place. He was pleasant to talk with as well as polite.

My condolences go out to his family, friends and fellow officers.

I am so sorry this tragedy happened. We are put in perilous situations everyday and can only hope we make the right decisions. Sometimes circumstances get in the way. To Officer Darden, may your walk in heaven with the father be a rewarding one. To your co-workers, may you find forgiveness in your hearts and understanding for an officer who will dwell on this for the rest of his life. To your family, may you find peace in knowing Seneca was doing a job he loved, and was very good at. And for everyone else, try to live up to the man he was so that his life was not in vain.

When I heard what happened to my fellow academy classmate my heart dropped and my body went numb. Officer Darden was a great officer and friend to many on the department. I remember when we were in the academy he would make everyone laugh by telling jokes just to keep smiles on our faces during DTs. Officer Darden was an outgoing officer, always willing to help the citizens of Norfolk. He knew this was his calling. I always saw him with a smile on his face. Officer Darden would come into work with a big SMILE on his face, which put the platoon in a good mood before heading out to the streets. He was always there to listen if someone needed an ear,and always willing to help out another officer or citizen in need. He was there for me when our academy, the 68th, had dificulties starting out, and gave me the nickname WEST VIRGINIAN just to make everyone laugh. He was a good officer who will be missed very much.
My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Darden and his family.
Love,
A member of the 68th Academy.
