The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

I struggled to find the words,,having lost friends in the past in the same tragic manner. But the words escape me now. I cry for the loss and for the pain of everyone involved,,the family,, the friends and co-workers and the fellow officer who fired. Some times the price of a free society is more than any person can handle alone. Thank God for the Line of Blue for none of us would survive without it. Rest in Peace Officer Darden.

In The Line of Duty; I hear them say
My family now the price to pay
My folded flag stained with their tears,
We only had those few short years
The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
Seneca,
Never in a million years did i think i would find you listed on this page. No call on the way to work , no mid day laughs, talking about a wake up call & I can't even imagine how your family feels. I will miss you Seneca so much and you will never be forgotten. I know that you are watching over all of us and always will. I never told you how much your friendship and presence meant to me but im sure you knew. You were such a caring and friendly person to everyone you met and we all appreciate that. Continue to watch over us from above and we will handle things down below. I pray that God's love and strength will continue to hold and comfort your family and friends during this time.

To the Norfolk Police Department. You have lost 2 Brothers in Blue in just 7 months. I cannot begin to imagine the grief you must all feel. You go out each and every day to protect your fellow citizens and are willing to give your own life to do so. You are all heros. May God Bless each of you and guide you as you grieve for your fallen brothers and begin the road to healing.
