Reflections for Master Police Officer Michael E. Garbarino
Rest In Peace Sir, You truly were a hero to the end, and warned others of the danger to protect them from harm even as you sat in your car so badly hurt. I only met you a few times, but you were always very kind and willing to chat.
In the words of the little girl I take care of "He's in a better place now, with God, where there are no bad guys"

Mike, we met a few years ago when I was assigned to your station. I was going through some tough times and kind of felt downright all alone. You didn't know me at all, but yet you were very welcoming and kind to me. You treated me like an old friend even though we really just met. I needed that, Mike. Thank you.
I listened to the radio traffic on May 8, 2006. I heard you warning others of the suspect's movements and actions. You were so badly hurt, but you still were watching out for your brothers and sisters. Words can't describe the amount of respect and admiration I have for you and Vicky, so I won't even try.
Good bye, Mike. I will always remember you.

Dear Mike:
This is becoming an all too often occurance, writing a reflection for a fallen brother. Though we know that this is always a risk when we accept our badges and take our oath, it still doesn't ease the hurt and pain that your family, and your law enforcement family, now must endure.
As you will always be a member of your immediate family, so shall you be in your law enforcement family.
Though justice was served with the death of the offender, it still won't bring you back. But your death shall not have been in vain. No, never. For you gave your life in a manner most citizens would never, and could never, imagine...dying to protect others.
You have made all of us who wear a badge, carry a gun, and enforce laws to protect others, and maintain order, proud. Proud to be a part of you, and now for all eternity, you are a part of us.
My wish for your family is that our heavenly Father watches over them during this horrible time, and that He grants them a healing period where they are stronger. You have spent your time in hell, enforcing the law. For you brother, rest in peace, go with God, and until we meet in His special place for ALL police officers, know that we have the watch. Amen.

BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT HE IS IN A LAND OF NO PAIN NOR SNIPERS ANYMORE. MAY GOD BLESS HIM. MY BROTHER IN BLUE, YOU HAVE SERVED WELL FOR 23 YEARS AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE. MAY YOU NEVER BE FORGOTTEN AND MAY YOU REST IN PEACE UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN IN HEAVEN. GOD BLESS.

Oh, Gabby, I hoped and prayed beyond all that you would live, not give him the satisfaction of taking two of us. There is such a hole in my heart. I'll miss your smile, your wit and your sweet personality. Rest, my friend. You will be greatly missed.
