A PIECE OF AMERICA DIED

Somebody killed a policeman today
and a piece of America died
a piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him...at his side
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court
with counsel demanding his rights
while a young widowed mother must work for her kids
and spend many long, lonely nights
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half staff
to his name they will add a gold star
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today
It happened in your town or mine
While we slept in comfort, behind our locked doors
a cop laid his life on the line
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street
and he stands at each new rookie's side
He answers the call, and gave us his all
and a piece of America died

I am saddend and very angry over hearing the news of the loss of Deputy Jones. To the family and friends, you are all in my prayers, and I want you to know that justice will be served to those cowards who did this. They will be punished here on earth and then in hell!!! I lost a buddy Det. Jared Jensen EOW: 02/22/06 to a cold act of violence. Im time, your hurt, rage and anger will lessen, but it will not go away. Talk about Bill, pass on stories about him, remember him for the man he was and what he stood for. Never forget! We owe that to all of our brothers and sisters who have fallen. For those of us who are still guarding the thin blue line.... Stay strong, be vigilant, and be safe. God bless you all.

Deputy Jones, your watch is over, we will take it from here brother.

There are those in life that know what personal sacrifices consist of and law enforcement officials belong that group. I have family that live in Ten Mile and that attend Shiloh Baptist Church so this tragedy has hit close to home. As a soldier on deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom I have received countless letters and thank you notes and prayers of safe return and now I return those thank yous to you Deputy Jones. You have given your life in hopes to protect people that need protection. Your family has endured some of the same sacrifices of which my own has endured. So I pray for you and your family and may the Grace of God help them through this difficult time. As the powers of the Lord be entrusted to those who worked by your side and apprehend the "person" on the run and bring him before the court. My heart is with you and to your family and all the citizens in Roane County that have been affected.
