Reflections for Deputy Sheriff William Birl Jones
Words cannot express how deeply we feel the sorrow and sadness in the loss of Bill. We will continue to pray for the families of both Bill and his friend Mike. The many reflections left on this site in such a short period of time shows just how deeply people truly care. We sincerely hope you find comfort just when it’s needed most.

I worked for the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Dept. for ten years. I’m now a teacher, but I still remember well what it felt like to serve a warrant, make a traffic stop, answer a domestic call, or do any of the thousand things a police officer does that put his life in danger. It takes a special type of person to do that, shift after shift. It takes a hero.
May God bless Officer Jones, and may He bless his family, friends...and “brothers”.

I want to send my deepest condolences to the family of Deputy Bill Jones. Bill was a fine police officer, a brave man that did his job without fear. Bill always had a smile on his face and loved serving the public. I had saw Bill and his friend just the other day at the gas station, we talked for a few moments and then they climbed back in their car and went back to work. Everyday for the past 25 years Bill has only know one life and that is law enforcement. We honor you Deputy Bill Jones today, and everyday from this point on. I hope Bill's family know that the brotherhood of law enforcement in Roane County will not let him be forgotten, as I know you will not. Thank you Bill for your kindness to me and you loyal service to all. Rest in peace now brother, we have your watch.

Deputy Jones apparently devoted much of his life to law enforcement and in the end, gave it. For your many years of service, Deputy Jones, we in your extended family salute you and mourn your passing.
May you and the civilian victim of this crime Rest Forever in Peace and may justice come to the murderous coward who took you both from family and friends. I'm grateful that at least one of them has been apprehended so far.

Officer Jones, So many days you have climbed into that Cruiser and went 10-8. Many many times you have questioned, (is this my day?, do I get to go home today?) We as officers have been there and asked ourselves the same questions. Each and every time, those of us who are reading this have been lucky enough to see our loved ones again. Yes we as officers do know that we may have to give our lives for another, and we are all prepared to do so. But we as officers do not expect to be taken down by a coward who does'nt even know us or have any dealings with us. Yes we as officers when we place that badge on our chest know that this is a possibility, but as Americans we are ready to face the enemy "face to face" and we will continue to do so. Officer Jones, as an American and as a Deputy Sheriff I apoligize to you for the American Terrorist that we have walking our streets. These cowards that committed this crime are just as the cowards that threaten our great nation. You are an American Hero and your brothers in blue who protect this great state and nation will never bow to any coward who plans success on the heels of a cowardly ambush. Rest in peace now brother. To the family: Deputy Sheriff Jones chose his profession with pride to serve and protect, he answered each call that he was dispatched on with the same willingness as if it were the highest in priority, he ,as with all officers loved his job. Remember him as a hero and keep his good deeds close to your heart, and know that the state of Tennessee and these great Unitied States has been blessed with his presence.

I want to let the families and friends of officer Bill Jones and Mike Brown know that they are in my heart and prayers. As Christ said in the Book of John, chapter 15,verse 13: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Officer Jones and Mr. Brown both made the greatest sacrifice and will always be honored for that. May God bless and be with each and every one of you.

To hear the news that another one of our fellow officers has lost their life in the "Line of Duty" is another tragedy in our community. My wife and i were deputy's/ correction officers with Cocke Co. Sheriff's office a few years ago. We know first hand how each member of the law enforcement community acts as truly "brothers and sisters". We would like to say to the family's of Deputy Jones and to Mr. Brown our heart felt condolences to them respectfully.Put your trust in the Lord to help you get through this tough time in need. And to our fellow brother "your watch is now finished here on earth" fly to the heavens and enjoy the presents of Jesus Christ and the eternal life for which we will all enjoy someday. As a Ex-Police Officer and a close personal friend of Bill Jones it is a great lost to our Law enforcement agency around, along with being a kind and gently person with a heart as big and strong as he was to all that came to know him. He was a pleasure to work with and took his job very seriously,he was very helpful to new young Officers like me with anything you should know coming into the Law Enforcement field, which grown to be a great trust and friendship between us.
He is by far one of the best Officer/Deputy/friend/ family man i have ever known, and will be greatly missed, but will never be forgotten. It was a pleasure to have known a man like Bill in my life, which i respect very highly.
I would like to send my condolences to all his family members, and wish them my best of love.

As a son, brother, and brother-in-law to police officers; I can somewhat relate to what your feeling right now. although I've never lost a family member in the line of duty, I lost a good friend 15 years ago. The only things that heal such pain is time, faith; and support from the people around you. He will be remembered as a hero who died protecting those he cared about....the public. I offer my sincere condolences for you loss and I hope that those responsible are brought to justice quickly.

We are saddened once again with the sad news of another hero taken from us. It is a great loss for the family and department during this crisis. We might not know the right words to say, or even know how to say them, but we can pray for your family and friends. May the Lord give them strength through this time.
