Lord,
He was yours to give,
and yours to call home,
please stand by his brothers,
so they don't feel alone,
dry the tears of his family,
so they clearly see:
that he gave his all,
so all could have peace.
Blessed are they,
the children of God,
with heavy hearts,
and honor - they trod,
to pay their respects,
to give their salute,
and to ask for your mercy,
on heroes in Blue.
Amen.

Bill, rest easy brother, we have the watch.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of Deputy Sheriff Jones and his friend Michael Brown. My young son is a police officer with the City of Knoxville, TN, and I was married for 31 years to a police officer. Words cannot express the pain I feel for your loss -- the fear we all live with each and every day has so tragically come true in your life. The words just won't come to me to let you know how sincerely touched I was by the picture of Deputy Jones with his little grandchild! I too have a little grandchild about the same age and I feel empathy for your pain and loss. May God help you by holding you in his arms and carrying you when you feel you cannot take another step on your own. Revel in the love of your friends and family and allow them to comfort you. It will mean so much in times to come. I know how much it hurts and I wish I could share in your pain so as to lighten your load. I'll definitely be thinking about you and have you in my prayers. God bless you and keep you in his loving arms. If you ever need to talk, please feel free to call me. Bless you!

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

I'm still in shock over this whole incident. I knew Bill through my dad who worked with him at Rockwood city. When I went to dipatch I got to know him a little better. I truly hope that justice will be served to all those involved in this. Thank you for your service.
