Reflections for Deputy Sheriff William Birl Jones

Officer Jones, you were a great man and a great influence on my life. I never knew how much you meant to me until you were no longer with us. You were tough as nails in life and I know you will never change. Here's to you sir.

Deputy Bill Jones was a friend to all that met him. I first met Bill Jones approx. 9 years ago and we have had a very good working relationship sense then. I had just saw Bill Jones on Tuesday and we chated and he chated with my childern and the problems they are having. He was a good officer and a person that would help you if you asked.

(From a Policeman's Prayer) "...And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your Heavenly Force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God, as we have been to guard the city of men."

A new assignment waits for you in heaven. My condolences and heartfelt prayers to your family and department. God Bless.

Jones on the day that you were murdered, me and jenn were at my grandmothers funeral. While I was at the funeral I was thinking about how it was my birthday and our fallen officer Matt Rittenhouses birthday also. When people would tell me happy birthday, I would tell them it is Matts birthday also. I stepped outside for a few minutes and I seen all the officers going by the church. I told some of our co-workers that were at the funeral that something was wrong. I went to get my phone out of the car and I had already missed 4 calls. I called one of our officers and he told me about your murder. At that time I didnt believe it because you were always the one that protected all of us. I went straight inside to tell jenn and she started shaking and got just as upset as I did. She always loved you coming over the house just so she could give you another candle...I think it made her happier then it did you. When I first started at Rockwood you were my Sgt. and were always there for me, on duty and even in my personal life. When anybody you worked with had a problem everyone knew they could depend on you. You would never ask what was wrong, you would just ask what can you do for them. I have and always will look up to you and respected you. You treated your men like they were your family, and sometimes like your own son. You took control of situations in bad times, you never disrespected your men, and always no matter what always stood by our side.
On the night the 2nd suspect suspect turned himself in, me and some other officers were sitting there when the Trooper pulled up with him. I had to look in the car for myself to see that they had him. Once I seen him in the car, it felt like 1000 pounds had been lifted off my shoulders. I started calling family and freinds to let them know that he was in custody, some were happy when I told them and some started crying because they were so relieved to find out. A bunch of the officers sit outside the jail while they were talking to the suspect inside. When they brought him back out and transported him to another facility and the car pulled out of the parking lot with the suspect in it, all I could do was watch and Thank God that he was in custody. At that time another Deputy came up behind me and just started patting my on the back. At that time I knew he was feeling the same way I was. We are going to miss you brother. I know that you'll be looking down on us and watching over us all the time just like you always have. You are a what a Sgt. should be and a True Hero. Rest in peace Bam Bam. WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU SIR.

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Romans 13:4

Deputy Jones,
How sad that you were ambushed by cowards, cowards with a grudge against the brave men and women that have answered a higher-calling to hold criminals accountable and to see that justice is served and the innocent protected. Your many years of service mark you as a dedicated officer, vigilant and courageous to the very end. God bless-you, and know that you will always be remembered as a hero. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and the brave men and women of the Roane County Sheriff's Office. Our prayers are also with the family of the innocent who was brutally gunned down with you. Rest in peace, brother.

Deputy Jones and Family,

I never knew this fellow brother personally but, several of my comrads did and spoke well of him. Deputy Jones has paid the ultimate price as a law enforcment officer. I remind his family the apostle Paul said " TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD". I assure his family, Deputy Jones will live forever in all the hearts of every law enforcment officer that wear the badge proudly! Final thought " YEA, THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH, I WILL FEAR NO EVIL;FOR YOU ARE WITH ME! My prayer is that God comforts all of Deputy Jones famliy and friends!

Rest in Peace Deputy Bill Jones, and your friend,
Officer Mike Brown.

I knew Bill Jones through Mike Brown. Mike was my ex-husband.

Bill and Mike both had worked in Law Enforcement many years, and served together in Cumberland County. They were best friends.

Bill helped Mike through a terrible time in his life, showing how close they were. Bill was Mikes strength, as Mike was Bills.

Mike always talked about times he and Bill shared as partners and friends.

They died for each other.

My heart is broken for these men and their families. My prayers and my heart are with you.

Deputy Bill Jones, I Loved you for being there for Mike, and being his friend. You showed what true friendship was all about. Mike had a great respect for you Bill, and would have given you his right arm if you needed.

Mike Brown, you were an Honest Cop, a Good Person, A Good Father, and a Loving Husband, and I take comfort to know you Loved me with all your Heart.

Bill, I cant think of words to describe the last 48 hours. The past two days have just ran together and seemed like one. We felt so helpless seeing you there. We knew that you had to have been ambushed. We worked non-stop trying to catch the other. I heard he turned himself in last night. It was quite something, seeing so many officers coming from so far away to assist in the search. We all thank you for watching over us during this.
Rest in peace bam-bam, we'll take it from here.
