Reflections for Assistant Chief Deputy L. Keith Lyon
Rest, brother.

To the family, friends & partners of Deputy Chief Lyons,
On May 9 1987 at 2327 Hrs. God spared my life in a line of duty shooting. How saddened I was to hear that on the anniversary of my survival a fellow officer's life ended trajically at nearly the same hour as my life was extended.
I will never fully understand why I was spared when so many others are not, but I do know that God makes no mistakes. As I read and heard about the testimony of Deputy Chief Lyon I was encouraged to learn of not only his love for the Lord, but for his love of his fellow man. He was truly an example that any officer would do well to aspire too.
It is clear that this love was and is a common thread in a family that has a strong tradition of serving both Law Enforcement and their community. You who are left behind can be proud to have known, loved and served with this Officer and Man of GOD.
My prayers are with you,
D. Chris Schultz Retired Deputy Sheriff Missoula County Montana and current resident of Knox County TN.

Keith,
Not only were you a great officer and supervisor, but a great friend to me and my family. I know time will heal all wounds, but it is hard to imagine ever getting over the empty feeling that I have in my heart now. Looking back I remember all the long hours of surveilance and the constant picking on everyone to pass the time. No matter how tired we would be you would remind us why we were there and what we needed to accomplish. You influenced me as a person and made me what I am as a police officer. It's hard to imagine putting on my badge and going to work without you there to look over me. I know you would want us to continue what you worked so hard to build and that is what makes doing it without you so hard. The only comfort I have is knowing that you are with God and looking down on us. You will be missed greatly my friend. This job and my life will never be the same without you here. Just know that we will do whatever needs to be done for Carla and your entire family as we are all one. Thank you for everything you have done for us. We love you. Mark, Cyndie, Madison, and Riley.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Asst Chief Dty Lyon, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.
Then the rainstorm came, over me
And I felt my spirit break
I had lost all of my, belief you see
And realized my mistake
But time through a prayer, to me
And all around me became still
I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name
Through the rainstorm came sanctuary
And I felt my spirit fly
I had found all of my reality
I realize what it takes
'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name
Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name
Well I try to say there's nothing wrong
But inside I felt me lying all along
But the message here was plain to see
Believe me
'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name
Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name
Love can help me know my name.

May 9th will be a day I will never forget. It all started like every other day, but I had no idea how the day would end. At 2313, I dispatched an accident on Schaad Rd. Caller said 2 vehicles hit head on, one was in the ditch. Another caller said one vehicle was on fire. We have accidents every day. Why would this one be different? We had no idea our lives were about to change when deputies got on scene. God had called you home. This accident, was your accident.
There is a great void in the department and there always will be. You wore so many hats in the department, it is hard to imagine finding one person to do them all. We have lost a great leader, brother and friend. I am proud to have worked with you Chief. My thoughts and prayers remain with your wife and family.
If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. (Romans 14:8)

I have known Chief Lyon for more than 19 years as I used to work for his Department. It was only until the last year that I worked for K.C.S.D. that I had really gotten to know Keith. He worked harder than anyone in this Department and you could call upon at any hour of the day or night and he would do anything to help you. After I left K.C.S.D. and went to another department that borders Knox County, this is when we became close freinds. I remember the times that we would meet on Clinton Hwy and have dinner and talk about cases. He was always willing to help run down suspects in the middle of the nighteven when it was another Counties case, but that was just the type of Officer that he was. Keith, you will be dearly missed by not only your Department, but the entire Law Enforcement Community. Rest in Peace for your dues are Paid in Full.
