Reflections for Detective Vicky Anne Owen Armel
My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. I am also praying for all the members of the Fairfax County Police Department. I rode with many members of Fairfax County last year during the Police Unity Tour. I know this is a very difficult time.
Rest in peace Vicky.

First I want to offer my deepest sympathies for Vicky's family, friends and co-workers. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Myself and another Officer from my department attended Gary Buro's service yesterday and upon returning home in the afternoon, I thanked my partner for driving the three hours each way and said, "hopefully we won't have to make another trip like that any time soon." It is with sadness for a sister of the thin blue line like Vicky that we will make another trip to pay our respects and honor one of our own.

A Part Of America Died,
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

I was stunned when my fiance (a fellow VA officer) called to tell me about the shooting last night and deeply saddened when I heard that you had succumbed to your injuries. I check this site every day and am aware of the dangers police officers face, but it's different when it happens so close to home and seems so completely senseless. Thank you for your nine years of service to our community. My heart goes out to you, as well as to your family and your fellow officers. May you find peace.

Nothing is routine...not even shift change. The Lord must have needed another angel yesterday. What other reason would he have allowed this to happen? My heart breaks for Detective Armel's family & friends as I know their pain. I pray for healing & hope for her family & co-workers, especially the other officer that was badly injured. Take care of each other and tell each other how much they mean to you for you never know when your last day will be. Thanks for your sacrifice!

May God bless the Armel family and her brother officers in this sorrowful time. In my job driving tractor trailer, I drive through Fairfax County every night, and know that the officers in this area are very helpful and are to be commended in there professionalism. This senseless unprovoked killing and wounding of officers makes you wonder how anyone could be a police officer. But without people like Detective Armel the country would be a wasteland. God bless you Vicky and rest knowing that you did make a difference in the lives you touched
