Reflections for Detective Vicky Anne Owen Armel

I met Vicky Armel when she had just started working for the Fairfax County Police Department. She had recently made the transition from the Fairfax Sheriffs Department. I remember how excited she was about her new position, and about working the road. We talked many times, and I was impressed by her dedication and enthusiasm for her job. I admired her courage, and she became one of my inspirations to pursue a career in law enforcement.

I will never forget her, but I know we will meet again. Thank you for being one of my heroes, Vicky.

Tyler and the kids will always be in my prayers. I pray the Lord will give them strength during this difficult time, and may they find comfort in the love surrounding them.

I used to call you "Little Blue Bird", because of the way you flew in and out of the front desk area at Mason Station. Now, I think of you as a beautiful eagle, soaring. Dedicated police officer, loving wife and mother and a true friend. You have left behind, a beautiful legacy. Rest in Peace. Thanks for the memories

It's strange what we remember about our friends. At least a decade ago I first saw Vicky and Tyler together. I'm not sure if they were married then but there was obvious love and effection between them. I will try and continue to show that same kind of love to my spouse.
Vicky passed my office every day after entering the station just yards from where she was taken from us. Never did she pass and not say hello with that infectious smile. "The wicked flee when no man pursueth, but the righteous are bold as a lion". Peace be with you good friend.....

THE CHAIN

We knew little that morning
That God was going to call your name
In life we loved you dearly
In death we do the same
It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone, for part of us
Went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same, but as
God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.

Rest in Peace, Vicky. We will see each other again.

Over the past 18 years I have alot of great memories associated with work. Most of the best memories include you and Tyler. Any function you attended always turned into a better one. When you two got married it brought the two agencies closer together making the entire county a better place to work. When you left us for them, they gained a super person and an outstanding officer. But you never forgot us, and we will never forget you.

Having so many friends who work with the police department it saddens me to think of the great person we all lost. I know everyone would anything to change the outcome of Mondays events. Lets all be thankfull for being blessed by knowing such an awsome individual.

Tyler, I know you are a strong person, you will have success in whatever you set your mind to. We are all here for you in this time of need, and forever.

You always held my highest respect, and I am both honored and proud to have worked with you. Yours is the most difficult job. Yours is the most honorable job. And, yet, yours can be the most thankless job. But, I thank you. I thank each of you. And I am continuously humbled and inspired by the bravery of America's law enforcement.

I never had the honor of meeting you, Det. Armel, but I will certainly never EVER forget you. You were stolen from your family and your community, but you can never be stolen from our hearts and our prayers. Your memory will never die. I will tell your story to my children and their children because YOU are a testament to selflessness and to always doing what is right, not what is easy.

I am fortunate and proud to support the sworn officers on this Department who will continue your watch and remain dutiful in your honor. May God bless you, your family, and the entire Fairfax County Police Department.

Vicky was truly one of the finest people on the planet. I will never forget the years we shared working at the Reston district station. I remember how excited she was when she was preparing for the arrival of her first child. Her joy and enthusiasm was very contagious. Vicky was always upbeat and very committed to her family and job. Vicky, even though this is difficult for us all, we know that you are in the presence of the Lord experiencing joy beyond measure. We pray that the Lord will give Tyler and the kids the grace and strength they need to endure this difficult time. Blessings!

Forever In Our Hearts

Police Officer
George Mason University Police Dept

May 10, 2006

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Vicky,

You paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure this countries freedom. I only wish there was more that I could have done to help you, in your time of need. I along with your other brothers and sisters in blue attempted to get to you quickly, we were not quick enough. Please no that we did our best!!!!!!!

Vicky, from your seat at the right hand of God, may you watch out for all of us, your family at the Fairfax County P.D.

May God and his angels spread their wings and watch over your husband and your children.

This was a very sobering day for Fairfax County. We have lost one of our own. Vicky was a Deputy Sheriff for 7 years and then she tranferred to the Police Department for 9 years. Vicky served this County for 16 years and gave it her heart and soul... Vicky was something special, always friendly and happy, but she knew her job. She will be missed by all who's lives she has touched in both agencies.

May God watch over her family and keep them safe. May her children know that their mother died not in vien, but doing what she loved. My hopes are that they will know that she was and will alway be thought of as an outstanding person who was respected by all and who's that her life was ended to early.

Rest as peaseful as you can Vicky. Know that God needed you in his house now, that is why you were called home. He will watch over your children.

Love always,
Penny
