Reflections for Detective Vicky Anne Owen Armel

Vicki, I don't know where to start, I guess it would be 17 years ago working along side of you with the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office, what an honor. I remember you being the first female with the agency making the pistol tea, man can you shoot. I thank you for all your help at the range. I remember when you transferred to the Fairfax County Police Department to further your career in law enforcement and I thought to myself, we're losing one heck of a good deputy. I'll always remember your smiling face coming to see me at the security desk when you had court asking how the gang was doing. I wish I could have been there to do something that would have changed the outcome of May 08, 2006. Vicki, you are a HERO in my eyes and always will be. Vicki look after our brothers and sisters God Bless. TODAY I LOST A DEAR FRIEND!! You will never be forgotten take care till we see each other again. Tyler, I, and all your brothers and sisters are feeling your pain. Tyler stand proud, Vicki is a HERO! My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. To all my brothers and sisters be safe for we have a new angle looking over us.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Detective Armel, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Then the rainstorm came, over me
And I felt my spirit break
I had lost all of my, belief you see
And realized my mistake
But time through a prayer, to me
And all around me became still

I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Through the rainstorm came sanctuary
And I felt my spirit fly
I had found all of my reality
I realize what it takes

'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name

Well I try to say there's nothing wrong
But inside I felt me lying all along
But the message here was plain to see
Believe me

'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name

Love can help me know my name.

The times that I worked with Vicky are among the fondest memories of my career. She always had a ready smile and friendly attitude.

I knew her as a friend and Sister Officer.

She was a great lady and an exceptional Officer, that will be missed by many both inside and outside of the Law enforcement Community.

Dear Vicky,
I regret that I was never able to meet you, however I am privileged to have been one of your dispatchers while you were at Reston. You always said hello and had a great sense of humor. You were always professional, yet personable, and made the shift more enjoyable. There are no words to even begin to express my feelings; other than you gave the ultimate sacrifice and there is no doubt that your actions saved countless others. They say there is a reason for everything that happens; right now the only thing I can think of is that God has a bigger plan for you right now. After yesterdays services, I learned so much more about you and what a wonderful person you were, what a terrific and loving mom you were, and what a loving wife you were. You are still all of these things, just from a different place. You will never be forgotten. Tyler, Thomas and Masen, thank you for allowing all of us to learn so much more about Vicky. She will always be with you, and she will never be forgotten. God Bless.

Vicky, for the past week I felt a great amount of anger. When the services ended yesterday I felt as if a heavy burdon has been lifted off of all those who knew you. For I now see that your death was not in vein, you were sent to us as and angel. You have forever changed my life through your strength and character and because of you I will live my life as a better husband, dad, friend and police officer. Tyler, Mason and Thomas have not lost you, your sole is in them forever and for those near them to feel and continue loving you. Thank you for touching us all and making this world a better place.

Det. Armel, it is apparent through all these memories what a special police officer you were, and even more importantly what a special person. You will obviously be remembered for your life and how you lived it, as this overshadows your tragic and untimely death. To our brothers and sisters from FCPD, we understand your pain, and the entire DC area and law enforcement community stands behind you. Rest in peace sister!

I have only been a Dep for a few years but,if I can accomplish a percentage of what Det.Armel accomplished I will be blessed. Det.Armel set a standard that makes Fairfax County the elite. Thank you Det.Armel for blessing us with your strength and professionalism. Rest in peace.
