Reflections for Detective Vicky Anne Owen Armel
Det. Armel,
You went above and beyond the call of duty. I was greatly saddened to hear that you had your life taken so early.
To your family I just wish to thank you for letting us in the Law Enforcement community have you as part of the Blue Line. My wife didn't realize that it was you that had been taken from us. She had met you on a couple of occasions when you came in to interview inmates at Fairfax JDC and when she saw your picture her jaw dropped in shock.
To your children,
Kids, always remember that your mom was and always will be a hero to everyone in the law enforcement community. She put her life on the line everytime she walked out the door to head to work. She gave the ultimate sacrifice by putting her life on the line for the betterment of society and more specifically Fairfax County.
To your husband,
Words cant begin to describe how much it means to us all that you have not only lost your spouse but also a coworker. May God bless you and your children as you continue on with your lives. Always remember that Vicky will be there to watch over you and guide you through the days and years yet to come. We will always remember you and your family in our prayers. I just wish that I knew what else to say besides the fact that I wish I had been given the opportunity to be bettered by knowing you.
The fact that you have touched so many lives and have been a positive influence to so many is a true testament to your character. You will never be forgotten!

Dear Detective Armel & Family and Officers of the Fairfax County Police Department
I was deeply saddened at your recent loss. At the same time I know that you will find comfort in your wife, mother and partners's devotion to duty and heroism under fire. Her sacrifice will always be remembered among the brotherhood and sisterhood of the thin blue line.
I lived in Fairfax County and was a Prince William County Officer in the early eighties. I attended the Academy with many of your officers and have and will always have a deep respect for your department and its officers. You have an often thankless job, but the Officers of Fairfax County can raise their heads in pride knowing that they have had the honor of serving with Vicky.
I pray that in your grief you will take comfort in the knowledge that Officers all over this country share in your pain for we know when one of us falls so falls a piece of us. May God be with you, your family and your Department.

Exodus 15:2
The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.
1st Thessalonians 13-18
concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Friends,
We have sustained a terrible loss when we lost our beloved Sister and Friend. As with many who had attended the funeral, I was moved when they played your testimony. I immediately thought of the above text. We can all rejoice in the thought the as in Exodus 15 that Vicky had become an important part in our God’s Salvation and also in 1st Thessalonians that when the Lord gives the signal with the voice of the archangel and the blast of the trumpet’s call, that our Sister Vicky will be there to meet us in the clouds…Until then, Dear Sister…Gods Speed and Rest in Peace…

Vicky,
We both had the honor of working with you at the Sheriff's Office. Anyone who ever took over your posts knew they had nothing to worry about, nothing to re-write, nothing to re-do..We knew ALL that had transpired on that 12 hour shift. You were that good, you were that thorough, you were that kind of law enforcement officer...I learned so much from your work ethics.. and on those occasions when we had the chance to talk, you inspired me even more..I will never forget running into you at Fair Oaks Mall , me with my new twins and you with your face all lit up, as you told me you were going to be a mom soon..We are still struggling with the past week events...Never easy to accept, but we know you are in a better place ..We will continue to pray for your family and all who are struggling to get through all of this...Thank you for being such a great protector, co-worker, and friend.
Forever in our prayers.

When I read of your death and heard it on the news here in Florida, I was saddened that we have lost another fine officer. You made the ultimate sacrifice protecting others from harm. A true HERO. My husband is also a Deputy Sheriff, and your tragedy reminds all Law Enforcement officials that it could happen to anyone, anywhere at anytime. My prayers go out to your family and department during this time, and for the successful recovery of the injured officer. Rest in peace sister in blue.

Vicky,
We only knew each other through court. I will always remember that day you got a good laugh out of me and my small "trip".
I found hope and faith with all of this. You will be missed greatly. Thank you!

Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall

Each morning I awake and I cry for your babies. I know that you will watch over and protect them from heaven and you will always be a powerful presence in their lives. It will be up to us to make sure your babies grow up knowing how special their mommy was. We will not let you down.
I hold my babies tighter now knowing that only God knows when it will be the last time.

Vicky,
I am so sorry that we did not get to you on time. You know that we tried. Trying is not enough, but it is all we can do. Your brothers and sisters came together that day, and we continue to do so. For that I know you are proud. Every time that I see your picture, it is a combination of grief and happiness for the memories of having known you. You where one special person, nobody can dispute that. You where and continue to be a beautiful person in all respects. I will never forget the conversations we had. I am truly a better person for having known you. We will strive, as you would have to make the wrongs right and to just plain do the right thing. We will advocate for you and your family always.
You did the right thing untill the end. You where a guardian of the flock and I know you continue to do so in a higher calling. No more righteous a warrior is there than you.
The sheep cried this past Saturday and they showed their respect and admiration. There is no more fitting a tribute than that. The sheepdogs too are hurting, but we will be ok in the end because of your strength. It will just take some time. Please watch over us brave warrior, dedicated mom, and faithful wife. We love you.

My home was broken in 4 years ago in Herndon and my car keys were stolen, and my car was stolen. The Fairfax County Police Dept. recovered my car. Det. Armel was the lead detective who greatly assisted me during the subsequent court preceding which occurred due to her diligence. I vividly remember her speaking of her marriage and children and beautiful home. I am very distressed that this young woman, and servant of our Nation is gone. I grieve with all those who knew Detective Armel and I pray for her husband and their children. God Bless the Fairfax County Police Dept.

Before I became a trooper I worked at a sheriff's office in Southwest Virginia. During this time I became a firearms instructor in July of 1993. This was held at FBI Academy, they divided us up with a partner. My partner was Vicky, she was a very good marksman. She taught me some things about shooting. She always had a smile and kept me laughing. She spoke of her family and seemed very happy with her life and career. I often tell co-workers of funny things that happened that week. I will never forget her name. When I heard this tragic news I could not believe it could have been her. Rest in peace Vicky. I wish your family, friends and co-workers comfort. May God Bless each of you. Words cannot express how sorry I feel for each of you. You are in my prayers each day. Only God has the answers, so turn to him and keep your faith.

My heart goes out to the family of Vicky Armel.I read the downed officers page every day and pray for no new names to show up. Several months ago, I along with several other officers, engaged a suspect who fatally shot our srgnt Henry Prendes, also armed with an AK-47. I read this and it brings me back to that day. Vicky is a hero in all of our hearts. I will pray for the family and the other survivng officers who will always be heros within the law enforcement community. I'm proud to call myself a Police Officer along side such a dedicated and amazing Officer as Vicky and the surviving officers.
God Bless you all,
