It seems like just the other day we were in the Pre-cert Academy having a great time. I just can't seem to make any sense of what happened. When I rode down to Chester Station last week I wish we had met up instead of just talking on the phone. I thought for sure I would see you again soon. We're all going to miss you Gary, you were so much fun to be around. You really set the example of what a police officer should be and losing you today is just incomprehensible. My family prays for you, Kathy, and your family and I feel blessed to have been able to call you my friend. Were gonna miss you. Rest easy brother. I'll talk to you soon.

I must offer my deepest condolences to this fine man's family, friends and fellow officers. As I was at my job today probably complaining to myself about something, this man and his partner went into harm's way to stop a marauder and payed a tremendous price. Courage isn't being fearless, it's being fearful and still doing the right thing. He obviously was a courageous servant to several communities as well as to his country. Wishes of peace and healing to his family and friends, Grant in Cleveland

Although I did not know Gary, I feel like I did because of how many stories my friend (Gary's fiance) would tell me about him at work. They are so in love, and made eachother so happy. They had been through so much and still came out optimists and so full of life and joy. He lived life to the fullest and new what really mattered in life. He died a hero. My heart brakes for his family, and they are truly in my prayers. Love you guys. Amy

In Valor there is Hope. Rest in Peace.
Policeman's 23rd Psalm
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.
He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.
When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.
He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

I regret not getting to know you while you were with us. I saw you in the station during shift change but never had the opportunity to get to know you. You served your country and profession with honor and distinction and you will not be forgotten. My prayers are with your family and fiance. While we shed tears for a fallen brother, they have lost much more in a son, brother and future husband. God bless your family and may they know that as long as your law enforcement family is here, they have many brothers, sisters, sons and daughters to be there for them.

My heart is broken for the brotherhood of officers in Chesterfield County. Today they lost one of their brother's, even if he was with them a short time. His life and love for humankind made him take this thankless position. Today I am reminded about the ultimate price our officers pay so that we as citizens can feel safe. I will hug my husband just a bit harder from now on and remember to thank him for keeping us safe. Thank you Gary for your bravery, honor and commitment to the citizens of Chesterfield County and your fellow officers. God bless your family and rest in peace.
